Patent number: 11899758Abstract: The present disclosure relates to software tampering resistance. In one aspect, a method for generating protected code is provided, comprising identifying a primary function in code to be obscured, the primary function being a function used to verify the integrity of the code run-time. The method then comprises generating a finite state machine from the primary function, wherein a state of the finite state machine at a given instance defines an element of the primary function to be executed. The method then comprises distributing the finite state machine throughout the code to obscure one or more areas of the code.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2019Date of Patent: February 13, 2024Assignee: Nagravision SàrlInventors: Laurent Doré, Christian Mönch, Brecht Wyseur

Publication number: 20220012330Abstract: The disclosed method is concerned with a computer implemented method generating code for protecting sensitive data used by the program, by partitioning the program into a plurality of blocks of code, such that each code block in the program is registered using a code index in a code register created for the program. The code index for a given code block reflects current properties including the current location of the code block, at any given time. During execution of the program at runtime by the computing device, each code block of the program is moved from a first code location in a memory to a respective second code location in the memory, such that the code block is accessible from the second code location in the memory henceforth. The code index for the moved code block is updated to indicate updated current properties, such as the new location of the code block, i.e. the second code location, after moving the code block.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2019Publication date: January 13, 2022Inventors: Christian MÖNCH, Asfandyar ORAKZAI

Publication number: 20140189358Abstract: A method of transmitting a media work such as a movie to a client is disclosed. The method includes (a) encrypting the work using a sequence of different keys corresponding to respective temporally spaced segments of the document, (b) transmitting software code containing an algorithm from a security server to the client, the algorithm having a result that is a function of the state of the client, (c) executing the code at the client and returning the result to the security server, (d) determining whether the result is indicative of an unmodified client. The method further includes (e) transmitting a segment from a server to the client, (f) securely streaming a key corresponding to the transmitted segment from a secure remote server to the client, (g) decrypting the segment using the obtained media key, (h) if step (d) indicates a modified client, preventing further keys from being transmitted, otherwise repeating steps (e) to (g) and repeating steps (b) to (d).Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2013Publication date: July 3, 2014Inventors: Gisle Grimen, Christian Mönch

Publication number: 20100169647Abstract: A method of and apparatus for transmitting data in systems such as computer networks, for example in client-server or peer-to-peer arrangements. Access to transmitted data received by a destination apparatus is limited by the provision of software code at the destination apparatus. The software code is arranged to produce a result which is a function of the state of the destination apparatus, and this result is used to access the data. The software code may be either transmitted to the destination apparatus, for example along with the data it is used to access or from a separate server, or may be generated at the destination apparatus. The method and apparatus is particularly applicable in the field of on-line gaming, wherein the transmitted data is encrypted gaming data and the result of the software code provides the access key to the encrypted data.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2007Publication date: July 1, 2010Applicant: SECUSTREAM TECHNOLOGIES ASInventors: Gisle Grimen, Christian Monch
