  • Patent number: 6260903
Abstract: A portable partition for use in an automobile having a seat with a seat bench and a seat backrest. The partition includes a seat plate that has first and second portions that rest on the seat bench. The partition also includes a partition plate that has a bottom edge connected to the seat plate between the first and second seat-plate portions. When the seat plate is disposed upon the seat bench, the partition plate is disposed substantially orthogonally of the seat bench. The partition plate typically is constructed of a substantially transparent material so that the driver's view is not obstructed by the partition plate. The partition may also have a hinge joining the first and second portions. The hinge permits the seat plate to more closely fit the seat bench, particularly when a child is seated on a cushion or a child seat placed on top of one or both of the portions of the seat plate.

  • Patent number: 6100501
Abstract: A device for removal of a tick from the skin of a host and alternately to be used as a flashlight, such device having an open-ended casing for receiving the tick in a V-shaped alignment guide and slot defined in the casing, such tick to be trapped in the slot with structure to apply heat from an illuminating heating element in proximity to the tick to cause it to release its grip from the skin of the host after which it can be removed, with such illuminating heating element also acting as the light source when the device is used in its alternate flashlight mode.

  • Patent number: 5998762
Abstract: A device and method for removal of a tick from the skin of a host, such device having an open-ended casing for receiving the tick in a V-shaped slot defined in the casing, such tick to be trapped at the narrow end of the slot with means to apply heat in proximity to the tick to cause it to release its grip from the skin of the host after which it can be removed.

  • Patent number: 5914062
Abstract: A device for removing a tick attached to a host, such device having a tweezer with first and second tweezer arms disposed on a slide member movable within an outer casing, such tweezer arms movable within first and second channels defined on the inside of the outer casing with the front tips of the tweezer arms extendible and retractable through an opening in the front of the outer casing, with the channels tapering inwardly to compress and force the tips of the tweezer arms together as they pass through the opening to grasp a tick. A power source is provided in the rear of the slide member which can be a battery disposed within a chamber in the slide member and interconnected through a manually controlled switch to a heat member.

  • Patent number: 5887304
Abstract: An apparatus and method for preventing asphyxiation of an infant due to breathing of exhaled carbon dioxide. A mattress with optional mattress pad provides an even air flow that removes exhaled carbon dioxide that accumulates at or near the surface of the mattress or mattress pad. The infant may be located anywhere on the surface of the mattress or mattress pad as the even air flow disperses carbon dioxide across the entire surface. In a preferred embodiment, the even air flow is accomplished by forcing air into a cavity, or plenum chamber, in the body of the mattress which air distributes equally to air flow holes on the top surfaces of the mattress and mattress pad. Optional temperature regulating or medicine dispensing devices respectively heat or cool the air flow, or introduce medicine into the air flow. In another embodiment, the mattress is itself a mattress pad. That is, the mattress pad provides an even air flow as described and may be placed on the sleeping surface of a conventional mattress.

  • Patent number: 5556563
Abstract: A device for removing a tick attached to an animal or person having a tweezer with first and second tweezer arms disposed within a casing, such tweezer arms movable within first and second channels defined on the inside of the casing with the front tips of the tweezer arms extendible and retractable through an opening in the front of the casing, the channels tapering inwardly to direct the tips of the tweezer arms together as they pass through the opening. A power source is provided which can be a battery disposed within the casing and interconnected to the first and second tweezer arms. An electrical circuit is completed when the tweezer arms are in their forward advanced position extending out the opening of the casing to heat the tweezer arms and the tick grasped therebetween.
