  • Patent number: 8210400
Abstract: A valve for a pressurized dispensing container has a resilient annular grommet that surrounds a valve stem. The grommet has a lower segment which engages an elongate valve stem opening with a slight interference fit to provide user controllable metering of the product being dispensed. A recess in the lower surface of the grommet contains the stem button from the closed state to the fully open state to provide stability for the stem. The upper portion of the grommet has a restoring boot to assure that the valve is returned to its closed state once manual force is removed from the valve. A boot flange and stem recess engagement together with other dimensional relationships assures that the boot provide the required restoring force throughout the dispensing of product.

  • Publication number: 20120138639
Abstract: An improved valve for a pressurized dispensing container has a long sealed shelf life. This is obtained by having the valve stem button drive a tunnel into the grommet which provides both enhanced sealing between the button sidewall and grommet as well as the pinching of the grommet between the button and the valve mounting cup to prevent grommet material creep. A laterally extending annular plate from the bottom of the button facilitates dispensing in a tilt valve fashion. The lower portion of the stem has an interference fit with the grommet. The plate is spaced from the bottom surface of the grommet sufficiently so that the bending of the grommet base that occurs under pressure does not result in contact between the grommet and the tilt plate.

  • Publication number: 20120018031
Abstract: The grommet used for sealing the charging opening in a pressurized dispensing container is designed so that it can be held in a venting state prior to the charging of the propellant chamber. The design involves an annular ridge above the neck of the grommet and an annular groove above the annular ridge. In that fashion, the grommet can be held loosely on the opening in the base of the container. Flats or cutaways on the crown and groove assure passageway between the propellant chamber and the outside so that air can be taken in and expelled from the propellant chamber during the product loading stages.

  • Publication number: 20110139295
Abstract: For use in a pressurized container that dispenses product, a pouch support has an upper edge that rests on the upper opening of the container and a sidewall that extends downwardly to a tail piece providing a port. At this port, the pouch is sealed to the tail piece. A dip tube integral with the pouch support extends down from the tail piece. This arrangement permits filling the pouch in place in the container where the pouch is supported by the pouch support because the pouch opening is held open by the tail piece of the pouch support. Product that is ultimately dispensed , is filled through the port of the tail piece and through the dip tube. After the filling operation is completed, the valve is attached in place by crimping the valve cup to the upper opening of the container sidewall. The dip tube has a plurality of sidewall openings that permit dispensing product when the pouch is pinched off at the dip tube.

  • Patent number: 7832597
Abstract: An axially actuated valve primarily for use in a pressurized container having a dip tube comprises a vertical moveable valve element having a stem, button on the base of the stem and sidewall openings at the lower part of the stem. A resilient annular sealing grommet has a recess in its base into which the button fits. When the valve is closed, the button engages the ceiling of the recess to block product from reaching the sidewall openings. The button is within the recess at all times between its closed and open states. The button has upper and lower disc portions. The lower disc portion optionally has a tubular tail to engage a dip tube. The upper disc portion has edge recesses that provide communication between the stem wall openings and a zone created when the valve element is depressed. The button has a vertical passageway through the lower disc portion and a horizontal passageway between the two disc portions extending out to the edge recesses in the upper disc portion.

  • Publication number: 20100224656
Abstract: In a valve used for dispensing flowable product from a pressurized container A cup is snapped onto the button at the base of the valve stem so that the upper rim of the cup engages the resilient sealing grommet that surrounds the main portion of the stem. The upper rim of the cup provides a moderately sharp sealing edge so that the pressure against the surface of the resilient grommet is enhanced. This creates a more effective seal than does the relatively broad surface to surface engagement between button and grommet in a standard valve.

  • Patent number: 7775409
Abstract: An axially actuated valve for use in a pressurized container is controlled by a user to dispense the amount of product desired. The valve stem is moved in an up and down direction so that when dispensing, the user can control the amount of the valve openings that are in communication with the material to be dispensed. A resilient sealing grommet provides an interference fit around the lower part of the valve stem from the button up to the top of the valve stem openings. This interference fit effectively closes off the uncovered portion of the valve openings thereby permitting user control of the dispensing rate. The stem has openings partially tapered in the form of an inverted truncated pyramid to further facilitate user control of the dispensing of product.

  • Patent number: 7506989
Abstract: A horn device has a trumpet fixture with one or more internal lights. In one embodiment, the trumpet removably attaches to the valve portion of a canister containing a charge of pressurized gas or air. An actuator button on the top of the trumpet fixture is operable to open the valve assembly of the canister and release the pressurized gas or air through an interior passage of the trumpet fixture, causing a transparent or translucent diaphragm to vibrate, thereby producing a loud horn noise that is directed out of the open bell end of the trumpet. One or more light producing elements, such as electric lamps or LED's, a battery power source and an actuator switch device are housed within a rear chamber of the trumpet fixture. A button on the rear of the trumpet is pushed to control actuation of the light producing elements according to several modes of operation, including flash sequence and steady illumination. The produced light is directed forwardly, out of the open end of the trumpet.

  • Patent number: 7222758
Abstract: A standard stem and nozzle arrangement for a pressurized dispensing container which dispenses product such as caulk, has an engagement that holds the stem to the sealing boot so that when the nozzle is rotated, the stem will stay in place. Thus, any binding between nozzle and stem due to cured or dried dispensed product can be overcome by twisting the nozzle hard enough to break such a seal without causing the stem to rotate. The engagement is shown as a set of wedge-like projections that extend up from the button of the stem into the resilient sealing boot.

  • Publication number: 20040256418
Abstract: An axially actuated valve assembly for use in a pressurized container that is easily actuated and controlled by a user to dispense the amount of product desired. The valve stem is moved in an up and down direction so that when dispensing, the user can control amount of the valve openings that are in communication with the material to be dispensed. The flexible boot surrounds the valve stem by having an upper edge that engages the valve actuating ledge and a lower edge that engages the button when in the non-dispensing state. The boot has a squared off lower interior edge engaging the stem and the button of the valve member when in the non-dispensing state. The button of valve is small in diameter and less than the surface of the boot that the button engages. The boot has a substantially straight thin wall neck below the upper edge. Two slits in the neck reduce hoop strength to facilitate outward bowing of the mark when the valve is depressed.

  • Patent number: 6729362
Abstract: A grommet for sealing the propellant charging opening in a pressurized dispensing container has a crown portion inside the container, a base portion outside of the container and a resilient neck joining the base and crown. The neck dimensions are such so as to provide three interference fit sealing zones between grommet and container base. The neck has a length less than the lip of the container opening to provide a first interference fit sealing relationship. The neck diameter is greater than the diameter of the lip to provide a second interference fit sealing relationship. The corner between neck and crown is rounded to provide a third interference fit sealing relationship. The grommet has a central opening so that a stretch pin can be inserted to stretch the neck during the injection of propellant. The extended neck lifts the crown from the container and causes the neck to contract to provide a passageway around the neck and under the crown for injected propellant.
