  • Publication number: 20240092110
Abstract: A method operates a facility, which serves for the continuous production of multiple gang runs for forming individual signatures or signature packs from which type-specific print products are made in a downstream print further processing machine. An endless web is the basis for the formation of these multiple gang runs. The endless web, in the non-folded state, is imparted complementary handling by facility-internal means according to the following criteria: i) in a 2-gang run, the individual signatures or the folded signature packs are only deflected in a second longitudinal air folding station disposed downstream of the first longitudinal air folding station; and ii) in a 3 or 4-gang run, the individual signatures or the folded signature packs are additionally folded in a second longitudinal air folding station disposed downstream of the first longitudinal air folding station.

  • Patent number: 11034542
Abstract: An apparatus and method for optional cross-folding of successively following, sequentially printed sheets on a first transport segment. A compressed air device comprises a first control element that is connected to a control unit for triggering or suppressing a compressed air blast from at least one exit opening in the compressed air device. A printed sheet is diverted into a second transport segment for the folding operation or a third transport segment for bypassing the folding operation. The latter empties downstream of folding rolls into the second transport segment at a joint segment point, at which a fourth transport segment adjoins in downstream direction.

  • Patent number: 10934119
Abstract: A device for decelerating a transported and flat shaped product includes a brake operable by an air jet supplied by an air jet nozzle. The air jet nozzle is configured to impinge the air jet on a braking force implementing body to exert a braking force on the flat shaped product. The braking force implementing body includes: at least one first element, which has a physical structure for a return-flow of the air jet supplied by the air jet nozzle, and at least one second element, which for the braking force implementation is in an operative connection with the first element. The second element is configured to implement an impulse force caused by the air jet from the air jet nozzle. The impulse force results as the braking force onto the flat shaped product.

  • Patent number: 9969155
Abstract: A device for braking and positioning a print sheet in a processing machine, wherein, along a feeding direction for the print sheet, at least one mechanism exerts a braking force onto the print sheet, to position the print sheet in connection with an operation of a downstream-arranged processing station. The device includes at least a first mechanism operative to release pneumatic, braking-force triggering pulses that act upon the print sheet. At least a second mechanism is operative to generate at last one frictional force that acts upon the print sheet, wherein with aid of at least one of the first mechanism and the second mechanism, intermittent, uniform or oscillating braking forces are generated that act upon the print sheet. A control unit controls the braking forces based on at least one of changeable control profiles resulting from queried operating parameters and stored control profiles.

  • Patent number: 9969156
Abstract: A method for operating a device that applies a force to a print sheet during a folding operation, wherein the print sheet is in a specified starting position prior to the folding operation. Braking-force triggering pulses are directed toward the print sheet to counter the acceleration of the print sheet in the starting phase of the folding operation and/or to counter fluttering movements that occur during the intake of the print sheet. The pulses exert an intermittent, uniform or oscillating force onto at least a section of the print sheet. The pulses are controlled by a control unit which operates based on control profiles resulting from queried operating parameters and/or based on stored control profiles.

  • Patent number: 8714339
Abstract: A device and a method for transferring printed products conveyed in a stream of individual products from a feed unit to a removal unit makes it possible to divert the printed products from a feed direction to a removal direction. The feed unit includes a first conveyor and a transfer region, and the removal unit includes a takeover region with a support surface for the printed products. The transfer region is located higher than the takeover region. The removal unit of the device includes at least a second conveyor which forms the support surface. A pressing element is arranged above the support surface which can be lowered toward the support surface or toward a printed product moving in the direction of the support surface.
