  • Patent number: 7019249
Abstract: A method is proposed for arc spraying by means of a spray gun (1). The spray gun includes two electrically conductive spray wires (2) and at least one first supply device (3) for supplying a fluid (4), with an electrical voltage being applied to the spray wires (2), the spray wires (2) being fed by means of a wire guide (5), an arc (6) being ignited by the electrical voltage, the spray wires (2) being converted into a melt (8) in a melting region (7) and the melt (8) being applied by the fluid (4) to the surface (9) of a body (10). In this connection, particles (11) from a storage container (12) are supplied to the melt (8) by the fluid (4).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 26, 2003
Date of Patent: March 28, 2006
    Assignee: Sulzer Metco AG
    Inventors: GĂ©rard Barbezat, Christian Warnecke

  • Patent number: 6548125
Abstract: A method of coating an inner surface of a weapon barrel includes the following steps: directing a laser beam against the inner barrel surface to cause melting of regions thereof; introducing a coating material in one of powder, wire and ribbon form into the laser beam for melting the coating material to produce in the surface regions a molten bath composed of the molten coating material and a material of the weapon barrel; and moving the laser beam inside the weapon barrel axially thereof and relative thereto, whereby the molten substance of the bath becomes rigid as the laser beam moves away therefrom.

  • Patent number: 6511710
Abstract: A method of coating an inner surface of a weapon barrel includes the following steps: introducing a plasma burner into the weapon barrel; producing a plasma flame by the plasma burner; directing the plasma flame against the inner barrel surface to cause impingement thereon; introducing a coating material in powder, wire or ribbon form into the plasma flame for melting the coating material to form a molten liquid and for depositing the molten liquid by the plasma flame on the inner barrel surface; and moving the plasma burner inside the weapon barrel axially thereof and relative thereto while performing the depositing step for obtaining a surface coating on the inner barrel surface.

  • Patent number: 6500326
Abstract: A method of coating an internal surface of a weapon barrel includes the steps of applying an intermediate layer to the internal barrel surface by explosion plating and applying a cover layer at least indirectly to the intermediate layer by electroplating. The intermediate layer has a heat conductivity which is greater than that of the weapon barrel and a ductility which is greater than that of the cover layer.

  • Patent number: 6352740
Abstract: A method of coating an inner face of a weapon barrel with a coating material includes the following steps: introducing the coating material as a component in sheet or foil form into the weapon barrel; positioning the component in the weapon barrel such that a first face of the component is oriented toward the inner face of the barrel and a second face of the component is oriented away from the inner face of the barrel; maintaining an annular clearance between the inner face of the barrel and the component; providing the second face of the component with an explosive; and detonating the explosive for hurling the coating material of the component against the inner face of the barrel for effecting a cold welding between the coating material and the inner face of the barrel.
