The article includes a plurality of nanocrystalline flake particles bonded along their prior particle boundaries. The nanocrystalline flake particles have a median grain size less than about 30 nanometers and include a first set of grains comprising predominantly permanent magnet phase and a second set of grains comprising predominantly soft magnet phase.
