Abstract: Compositions comprising sun-care actives and self adapting polymers are disclosed. Self adapting polymers align themselves with the hydrophilic group pointing to the surface during application thus delivering an aesthetically pleasing surface to the consumers with a pleasant after feel. These polymers then rearrange upon contact with water so that the hydrophobic groups now point to the surface which then increases the water resistance of the formulation.

The compositions have lightly- to moderately-crosslinked PVP and at least one additive.

Abstract: A thickening additive composition comprising: (A) a substantially anhydrous solvent system; and (B) a thickening agent, wherein the thickening agent comprises a strongly swellable, lightly to moderately crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone. Personal care compositions containing the thickening additive composition are also described.

Abstract: Compositions containing a relatively high concentration of electrolytes and a thickening agent, wherein the thickening agent comprises a strongly swellable, lightly to moderately crosslinked polyvinyl pyrrolidone. The polyvinyl pyrrolidone thickening agent is characterized by an aqueous gel volume of about 15 to 150 ml/g and a Brookfield viscosity of at least 10,000 cps for a 5% aqueous solution at 25° C.

Abstract: Described herein are personal care compositions for use on the skin, hair, and lips that comprise: (A) at least one metal oxide, (B) lightly- to moderately-crosslinked PVP, and (C) at least one vehicle selected from the group consisting of: alcohols, esters, oils, glycols, and combinations thereof. The lightly- to moderately-crosslinked PVP suspends the metal oxide(s) whether or not water is added. Exemplary products embraced by the invention include sunscreens, diaper rash preparations, and anti-pruritic substances in the form of a lotion, cream, ointment, or gel.
