  • Patent number: 7099865
Abstract: A method and arrangement in a distributed system for synchronizing configuring data at a receiving unit with corresponding source configuring data. The configuring data and the source configuring data are arranged in one or preferably several groups of data. Reference checksums are calculated (201) for each data group. The receiving unit determines (202) whether the content in each data group of the configuring data at the receiving unit matches the corresponding reference checksum. The receiving unit requests (203) the source unit to transfer copies to the receiving unit of the source configuring data in those data groups for which a mismatch is detected. The requested data is downloaded (204) from the source unit to the receiving unit.

  • Publication number: 20050053081
Abstract: A mobile telecommunications system comprises at least one node through which a packet switched data session is established between a user equipment unit and a data network. In order to maintain a high packet throughput rate, the node makes a determination whether the packet transmission rate of the session is quickly accelerating and, if so, has the option to switch channels or channel types for the session, e.g., to switch the session from a common traffic channel to a dedicated traffic channel or from a dedicated traffic channel having a first transmission rate to a dedicated traffic channel having a second transmission rate. Switching to a dedicated traffic channel or a higher rate dedicated traffic channel provides a greater opportunity for the session to continue at a high packet transmission rate with less likelihood of packet loss. The node makes its determination at an early stage of the session.

  • Patent number: 6519461
Abstract: Two different types of communications channels including first and second types are provided to support user connections in a communications system. A first type of channel supports a user connection. Thereafter, a current load or throughput on the first type of channel is detected. Based on the detected load or throughput, a corresponding data amount threshold is provided. A current amount of data to be transmitted over the user connection is detected. A determination is made whether to switch the user connection from the first type of channel to the second type of channel based on the current amount of data to be transmitted over the user connection and on the data amount threshold. In the example embodiment, the user connection is switched to the second type of channel when the current amount of data to be transmitted is greater than the data amount threshold. Otherwise, the user connection is maintained on the first type of channel.

  • Publication number: 20030012217
Abstract: A channel-type switching control approach permits a variety of communication services to be provided in an efficient manner. A parameter affecting the decision whether to switch a user connection from a first type of communications channel to a second type of communications channel is detected. A channel-type switching decision is then made so as to reduce undesirable channel-type switching. Undesirable channel-type switching may include inefficient, excessive, or rapid cyclic switching of the user connection between the first and second channel-types. An undesirable channel-type switch may also be one where the “cost” of making the channel-type switch to the second type of channel is “more expensive” than the cost of maintaining the user connection on the first type of channel. In an example embodiment, the channel switching decision takes into account a current throughput over the second type of channel.

  • Patent number: 6466559
Abstract: First and second pools of resource units are configured using a structure having plural levels including first and second level resource units. A relationship is established between ones of the two pools of resource units. A request is made for a resource that requires a resource unit from both of the first and second resource unit pools. A single allocation procedure is employed to allocate resource units from both pools. If one of the resource units is available in one pool, the relationship ensures that a required corresponding resource unit in another pool is also available.

  • Patent number: 6434380
Abstract: A telecommunications system (18) has a capacity management system (100) which provides a user equipment unit agent (150) for each wireless user equipment unit (20) with which a connection is to be established. The user equipment agent negotiates resources for the prospective connection to be established with its corresponding user equipment unit. In the negotiation, the user equipment agent determines a number of purchase units expendable by the user equipment unit for the negotiation, and issues a resource request to begin the negotiation. Each resource has a resource unit price at which a unit of the resource is sold. In response to the resource request issued by the user equipment agent, connection resources are allocated to the user equipment unit in accordance with what the number of purchase units expendable by the user equipment unit can afford. The resource unit price for the resources is dynamically adjusted, e.g., in accordance with load on the telecommunication system.

  • Patent number: 6333936
Abstract: A pool of resource units is configured using a structure having plural levels including first level and second level resource blocks. Each first level resource block corresponds to an individual resource unit, where an individual resource unit is the smallest resource that can be allocated from the resource pool. The first level resource blocks are provided in groups. Each second level resource block corresponds to one of the groups of the first level resource blocks. The second level resource blocks are also provided in groups forming a next higher level of the resource pool. If a request is made for a first level resource block, an available first level resource block is allocated. If a first level resource block is not available, then an available first level resource block is created by converting a second level resource block into a corresponding group of first level resource blocks. One of the converted first level resource blocks is then allocated to the request.

  • Patent number: 6334047
Abstract: An efficient and effective power control in a mobile communications system is provided that adapts to rapidly changing radio transmission conditions in varying and often unpredictable situations. The value of a signal parameter detected from a signal received by a radio transceiver is compared with a desired signal parameter value, and a difference is determined. A transmit power control command is sent to the radio transceiver and may instruct, for example, an increase or decrease in the level of radio transmit power. Included with the transmit power control command is a power control indicator indicating whether a first or a second type of power control adjustment should be used by the radio transceiver depending upon the determined difference. In one example embodiment, the power control indicator is a single-flag bit. A first value indicates that the first type of power control adjustment should be used; the second value indicates that the second type of power control adjustment should be used.
