  • Patent number: 8925996
Abstract: A vehicle glazing has a gasket provided on at least one surface and extending along one edge of the glazing, and provided with at least one resilient asymmetric metal retaining clip for retaining a vehicle glazing component, such as a decorative trim. One side of the clip engages the gasket, and the other side retains the vehicle glazing component. Also disclosed is a preferred retaining clip for mounting on a gasket to retain a vehicle glazing component, the clip having a generally U-shaped section comprising a base and two limbs. The first limb may comprise at least two lugs extending in mutually diverging directions to grip the gasket, and the second limb may comprise a tab extending outwardly from the limb to engage the vehicle glazing component.

  • Patent number: 8911654
Abstract: A process for manufacturing at least two different discrete edge encapsulated glazings comprising panes of glass of different configuration, the process comprising molding a glazing profile onto at least part of the periphery of each pane of glass in a composite mold. This composite mold comprises multiple different interchangeable mold modules, each mold module comprising at least one mold cavity, and the composite mold therefore has two or more mold cavities configured differently to receive different panes of glass. Fluid elastomeric material is injected into the mold cavities at the same time, so that a glazing profile is molded onto each of the panes of glass concurrently. An injection molding apparatus comprising the composite mold may have multiple injection systems for the different mold cavities, allowing different molding materials to be used. The apparatus also includes a clamp unit having platens to which the multiple mold modules are attached.

  • Publication number: 20100244483
Abstract: An automotive glazing having a mounting strip for mounting a glazing component attached adjacent at least one edge thereof, and extending along at least a portion of the length of that edge, is disclosed. The mounting strip is bonded to a major face of the glazing by a strip of adhesive material in contact with at least a portion of the mounting strip. At least another portion of the mounting strip is spaced from the major face of the glazing. The adhesive is positioned such that the mounting strip does not overlap the edge of the glazing. A cavity is formed between the glazing, the adhesive and the mounting strip, the adhesive forming a closed end of the cavity, and an open end of the cavity facing the edge of the glazing. The cavity is dimensioned to receive a portion of said glazing component. Preferably, the adhesive is polyvinyl butyral (PVB). A method of bonding the mounting strip to the glazing is also disclosed.
