The orthopedic device can be a plate member having an aperture that is configured to receive the anchor. The anchor can include a head, neck and shank portion. The head portion can include a plurality of arms separated by grooves that are capable of splaying. The assembly is configured such that when the locking mechanism is inserted into the head portion, this causes expansion of the arms of the head. This expansion locks and secures the anchor to the orthopedic device. Various instruments are provided that can deliver the locking mechanism to the anchor, and can provide impact to lock functionality.

The implant includes a spacer portion having an inferior and superior surface, wherein the inferior and superior surfaces each have a contact area capable of engaging with anatomy in the treated area, and the inferior and superior surfaces define a through-hole extending through the spacer body. The present invention further provides holes extending from a side portion to the inferior and superior surfaces of the spacer portion and a plate portion rigidly coupled to the spacer portion, wherein the plate portion contains holes for receiving screws. A fastener back out prevention mechanism adapted on the plate to prevent the back out of the fasteners from the holes and to secure the spacer to the plate of the intervertebral implant.

    Abstract: An implant insertion tool includes an outer shaft, an inner shaft received in the outer shaft, and two arms coupled to the outer shaft and the inner shaft. The inner shaft translates within the outer shaft and has angled ramps that slide within complementary angled ramps in the two arms. The arms engage an implant for insertion into a body. When the inner shaft translates along a longitudinal axis, it causes the angled ramps to slide against the complementary angled ramps in the arms such that the two arms move laterally relative to the longitudinal axis of the outer shaft to engage and disengage the implant.
