  • Patent number: 8355862
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for presenting location information. A first geographic area in which a device is currently located is estimated using a first positioning system. A second geographic area in which the device is currently located is estimated using a second positioning system. A first map view including an indication of the first geographic area on the first map view is presented if the first geographic area is contained within the second geographic area. A second map view including an indication of the second geographic area is presented if the first geographic area is not contained within the second geographic area.

  • Publication number: 20120254769
Abstract: The present technology presents targeted content, such as a targeted application, in multiple different configurations to correspond to multiple display orientations. In one example, a primary application having a view reserved to present the targeted application is configured to be presented in either a landscape or a portrait presentation format depending on the orientation of the display. The primary application is further configured to switch from either the landscape or portrait presentation format to the other presentation format when the orientation of the display is changed. Accordingly, the targeted application can be downloaded in multiple configurations so that the configuration that is appropriate for the displayed presentation format of the primary application can be presented with the reserved view.

  • Publication number: 20120054864
Abstract: The present invention describes methods for improving security when accessing applications and other executable programs. In one exemplary method, a user is warned if an application that has never been previously run is being launched by the user. Other methods, as well as data processing systems and machine readable media, are also described.

  • Publication number: 20120023460
Abstract: At least certain embodiments of the present disclosure include an environment with user interface software interacting with a software application to provide gesture operations for a display of a device. A method for operating through an application programming interface (API) in this environment includes transferring a scaling transform call. The gesture operations include performing a scaling transform such as a zoom in or zoom out in response to a user input having two or more input points. The gesture operations also include performing a rotation transform to rotate an image or view in response to a user input having two or more input points.

  • Publication number: 20120022943
Abstract: The present technology provides a purchasing interface within an application that allows users to purchase a product from another source without leaving the application. The application offers a product for purchase, and a user, desiring to purchase the product can provide an input effective to cause a purchasing interface to be displayed. While the purchasing interface, or information presented therein, comes from the product source, which is different than the application source, it is presented in such a fashion that gives the impression to the user that they are purchasing the product directly from the application.

  • Publication number: 20110246296
Abstract: The present technology presents targeted content, such as a targeted application, within a primary application, in such a fashion that the targeted application is a separate process from the primary application. The targeted application is targeted to a specific user by compiling targeting data, generally describing aspects related to the user and information about the primary application for use by an application server, which processes the targeting data to determine suitable content. The present technology further achieves a balance between the need to protect a user's information and sharing some of this information with trusted sources for selecting targeted content to be displayed within a primary application by providing an operating system process to accept requests and compile targeting data for determined targeted content from the primary application without sharing the targeting data with the primary application.

  • Publication number: 20100325194
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media for a location information server to gather location updates by sending location-update-requests through a push notification service to a mobile device are disclosed. The mobile device provides location updates in response to the push-based location-update-requests received through the push notification service. The mobile device can switch from a self-initiated location update mode to a push-based location update mode depending on the current state of the mobile device. The mobile device can also choose an appropriate positioning system for self-locating based on the information embedded in the location-update-request received through the push notification service. The information embedded in the pushed location-update-request can be a precision requirement or context information that can be used to determine a precision requirement for the location update.

  • Publication number: 20100123737
Abstract: A multi-step animation sequence for smoothly transitioning from a map view to a panorama view of a specified location is disclosed. An orientation overlay can be displayed on the panorama, showing a direction and angular extent of the field of view of the panorama. An initial specified location and a current location of the panorama can also be displayed on the orientation overlay. A navigable placeholder panorama to be displayed in place of a panorama at the specified location when panorama data is not available is disclosed. A perspective view of a street name annotation can be laid on the surface of a street in the panorama.

  • Publication number: 20090326815
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for presenting location information. In some implementations, a method includes: obtaining a first position measure at a mobile device indicating a geographic area where the mobile device is located, presenting a first graphical indicator on a user interface representing the geographic area; obtaining a second position measure at the mobile device, indicating a location associated with the mobile device, and within the geographic area; and presenting a second graphical indicator on the user interface representing the location within the geographic area.

  • Publication number: 20090281724
Abstract: On a mobile device a “live” network-based query for search is performed (e.g., performed automatically) in response to a map display update or other trigger event. In some implementations, when the map display is updated (or other trigger event occurs) a network-based map service is queried to obtain information related to the current location of the mobile device. The information can be presented on the map display. In some implementations, when multiple search results matching the query are provided by the map service, a confirmation request is presented on the mobile device to allow the user to select a search result. The selected search result (e.g., a destination) can be presented on the map display. A route from the current location of the mobile device to a destination can be drawn on the map display.

  • Publication number: 20090228779
Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to enabling web applications to use application programming interfaces (APIs) to display content on a mobile computing device. In some embodiments, the APIs can include services to enable web applications to simulate a native application that runs natively on the mobile computing device. In some embodiments, the APIs can include services to annotate a map with an overlay on the display of the mobile computing device. In some embodiments, a caching module is provided for caching resources associated with a web application on the mobile computing device.
