  • Patent number: 11359495
Abstract: A member may have a primary major surface and a secondary major surface. The member may form an array of apertures extending from the primary major surface to the secondary major surface. The array of apertures includes at least one aperture comprising two or more conduits. The axis of each conduit intersects the axis of each other conduit in the aperture. The cross-section of at least one of the conduits perpendicular to its axis may be circular. In some embodiments, an aperture may comprise two or three conduits.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: June 14, 2022
Assignees: Rolls- Royce Corporation, Rolls-Royce North American Technologies Inc.
Inventors: James Loebig, James Christopher Muskat, Christopher Dwayne DeBruhl
  • Patent number: 10851996
Abstract: Heat shields and methods of cooling a heat shield are provided. A heat shield of a combustor may be cooled. The heat shield comprises a first surface and a second surface, where the first surface is opposite the second surface, and the first surface is configured to face a combustion chamber. The heat shield may be cooled by directing airflow over the heat shield through channels towards an opening of the heat shield and past turbulators located in the channels.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 10801727
Abstract: Systems and methods may be provided in which a combustion liner is configured to be included in an aft end of a combustor for a gas turbine engine. An aft seal may be movably engaged with the combustion liner in a seal engagement region. The combustion liner may comprise an inlet formed in an outer surface of the combustion liner to receive a cooling fluid, and an outlet in fluid communication with the inlet via a passageway formed within the combustion liner, the outlet disposed in an inner surface of the combustion liner in the seal engagement region.
