Abstract: Systems and methods for integrating research and incorporation of information into a construction specification involve providing information for potential inclusion in a specification to a user as part of the specification editing process so as to reduce the time spent in finding and researching information and including the information in the specification. A template specification with sections is provided, each section having one or more computer links corresponding to potential customization of the section with customized information. In response to selection of the link, construction information for potential inclusion in the template specification as a customization thereof corresponding to the selected computer link is retrieved from a database of construction information and is displayed adjacent the template specification.

Abstract: Methods for managing updates to customized documents and customized master documents including customized specification documents include receiving an update containing updated information for inclusion in a previously customized specification document, determining whether the updated information of the update impacts a customized portion of the previously customized specification document, and selectively merging the updated information with the previously customized specification document to generate a new customized specification document. The update and/or any impacted customizations may be presented to a user to permit the user to provide input into how the updated information and the previously customized specification document should be merged to generate the new customized specification document.

Abstract: Methods for propagating information between various documents, each having differing levels of detail about a project include receiving input defining information to be included in a first document and incorporating the information at a first level of detail into the first document. Additional information is automatically generated at one or more additional levels of detail varying from the first level of detail for incorporation into one or more additional documents and is automatically and selectively incorporated into the one or more additional documents. The project may be a construction project or may be associated with a construction project, and the documents may include specification documents for the construction project. Alternatively, the project may be in any of a variety of other fields where documents are to be assembled with differing levels of detail and/or customization.
