Patent number: 11973572Abstract: Methods and systems are described for providing end-to-end beamforming. For example, end-to-end beamforming systems include end-to-end relays and ground networks to provide communications to user terminals located in user beam coverage areas. The ground segment can include geographically distributed access nodes and a central processing system. Return uplink signals, transmitted from the user terminals, have multipath induced by a plurality of receive/transmit signal paths in the end to end relay and are relayed to the ground network. The ground network, using beamformers, recovers user data streams transmitted by the user terminals from return downlink signals. The ground network, using beamformers generates forward uplink signals from appropriately weighted combinations of user data streams that, after relay by the end-end-end relay, produce forward downlink signals that combine to form user beams.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2021Date of Patent: April 30, 2024Assignee: ViaSat, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth V. Patent number: 11914504Abstract: Physical experiments can be performed based on automatically-generated testing scripts according to some examples described herein. For example, a system can generate a sample set based on demand data collected from a group of manufacturing locations. The system can also generate a graphical user interface that includes graphical options through which a user can select settings for a testing script to be used in a physical test environment. The system can receive the settings from the user through the graphical user interface. The system can then generate the testing script based on the sample set and the settings, and provide the testing script for use in executing a physical experiment in the physical test environment.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2023Date of Patent: February 27, 2024Assignee: Starbucks CorporationInventors: Rachel J. Patent number: 11913495Abstract: A bearing and/or seal assembly where pressurized gas (e.g., air) may be arranged to produce a contact-free bearing and/or seal is provided. The assembly includes a permeable body (12) including structural features (13) selectively engineered to convey a pressurized gas (Ps) from an inlet side (20) side of the permeable body to an outlet side (22) of the permeable body to form an annular film of the pressurized gas relative to the rotatable shaft. Disclosed embodiments may be produced by way of three-dimensional (3D) Printing/Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies with practically no manufacturing variability; and may also cost-effectively and reliably benefit from the relatively complex geometries and the features and/or conduits that may be involved to, for example, form the desired distribution pattern or impart a desired directionality to the pressurized gas conveyed through the permeable body of the bearing and/or seal assembly.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2018Date of Patent: February 27, 2024Assignee: Siemens Energy, Inc.Inventors: Byron L. Patent number: 11230132Abstract: A method for directly writing metal traces on a wide range of substrate materials is disclosed. The method includes writing a pattern of particle-free metal-salt-based ink on the substrate followed by a plasma-based treatment to remove the non-metallic components of the ink and decompose its metal salt into pure metal. The ink is based on a multi-part solvent whose components differ in at least one of evaporation rate, surface tension, and viscosity, which improves the manner in which the ink is converted into its metal constituent via the plasma treatment. In some embodiments, a microplasma is used for post-treatment of the deposited ink, where the plasma properties are controlled to provide different material properties, such as porosity and effective resistivity, in different regions of the metal pattern.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2018Date of Patent: January 25, 2022Assignees: Case Western Reserve University, THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT AS REPRESENTED BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRSInventors: Christopher J. Patent number: 10407219Abstract: Provided is a method for making barrier tube shoulders. The method includes forming a parison from a multi-layer laminated structure having an inner layer that faces an interior of the parison, an outer layer comprising an exterior surface of the parison, and an interdisposed layer between the inner layer and the outer layer, wherein the interdisposed layer is a flavor barrier layer. The method also includes providing an extrusion blow molding (EBM) mold comprising at least one cavity shaped as a barrier tube shoulder, positioning the parison in the EBM mold, and blow molding the parison such that the parison substantially conforms to the EBM mold to form a barrier tube shoulder having the barrier layer.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2015Date of Patent: September 10, 2019Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive CompanyInventors: Jun Wang, Christopher J. Patent number: 10168906Abstract: Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for pre-allocating storage space for an application operation in a space efficient volume. To transmit application requests to a storage controller managing a space efficient volume, a determination is made of an amount of space required for an application operation requiring a series of write operations over a period of time to the space efficient volume. A space pre-allocation request for the application operation is transmitted to the storage controller. The space pre-allocation request indicates a requested amount of physical space to pre-allocate to the application operation to cause the storage controller to pre-allocate the requested amount of space in advance of the application operation needing the requested amount of space in the volume for the series of write operations.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2017Date of Patent: January 1, 2019Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Robert S. Patent number: 10001926Abstract: A storage controller maintains an allocation space for extent space efficient storage volumes, in response to a request from a host application for storage space, wherein an extent pool is configured to allocate available extents to the host application. In response to a request from the host application to delete data stored in selected extents that are already allocated to the host application, the storage controller deletes the data but continues to maintain the selected extents as being allocated to the host application. In response to a request to write new data, the storage controller writes the new data to the selected extents that are already allocated.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2017Date of Patent: June 19, 2018Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Robert S.
