  • Patent number: 9365159
Abstract: A gauge assembly for a motor vehicle includes a gauge surface with graphics representing a vehicle operating parameter and a pointer supported for movement about an axis to indicate a current condition of the vehicle operating parameter by pointing to a specific location on the gauge surface. The pointer includes a pointer arm extending away from a hub and a bottom surface with a negative slope angled away from a plane normal to the axis toward the gauge surface.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 10, 2013
Date of Patent: June 14, 2016
    Assignee: Continental Automotive Systems, Inc.

  • Publication number: 20130092075
Abstract: An instrument cluster assembly includes a plurality of gauges that each provides an indication and measure for communicating vehicle operating conditions to a vehicle operator. At least one of the gauges includes a secondary scale that includes a plurality of individually illuminatable segments. The measured parameter is indicated by the secondary scales by illuminating select segments in a variable manner between a fully illuminated, partially illuminated and off conditions to provide an additional degree of precision.

  • Publication number: 20080018488
Abstract: A gauge assembly includes a dial face with a plurality of markings for conveying information regarding a vehicle operating parameter, such as vehicle speed, or engine RPM. A plurality of light emitting diodes (LED) are selectively illuminated to track the position of the pointer about the dial face to provide an additional indication of a measurement communicated to an operator.

  • Patent number: 5942819
Abstract: A combination motor brush support and electromagnetic suppression circuit comprises an assembly having a base which is affixable to a portion of a motor housing and which supports all components requiring precise mechanical alignment, including motor brushes, brush guides and brush springs. The base can also support the choke coils, and at least some of the capacitors of the noise suppression circuitry. The base includes a terminal support board affixed to, and projecting therefrom. The terminal support board has at least one of the capacitors of the noise suppression circuitry retained thereupon, and provides a set of motor contact terminals which are in electrical communication with the motor brushes supported on the base. The support member of the present invention functions as its own assembly tool for supporting and retaining the coils, capacitors, springs and the like.

  • Patent number: 5342226
Abstract: A female blade terminal assembly including a female blade terminal having a cage structure adapted to receive a male blade terminal and a shroud of seamless tubular cross sectional configuration adapted to fit over the cage structure in surrounding relation to the beam portions of the cage structure. The female blade terminal is formed from a single piece of conductive sheet material of a given thickness and the beam portions have a thickness less than the given thickness. The cage portion further includes front and rear annular collar portions of the given thickness with the reduced thickness beam portions extending between the annular collar portions. The shroud precludes outward splaying of the cage structure in response to insertion of the male blade terminal, limits the outward deflection of the beam portions to preclude plastic deformation of the beam portions, and precludes the entry of contaminants into the electrical interface between the beam portions and the male blade terminal.

  • Patent number: 5295870
Abstract: A modular electrical connector assembly for use with the wiring systems of vehicles. The assembly includes a plurality of modular blocks, each having one or more tapering mortises formed on the sides thereof and a plurality of tubular, singled walled, double tenon wedges which are insertable into the mortises to assemble the blocks together. Preferably, wedges are formed with an upwardly tapering ramp disposed on each tenon which terminates in an upwardly depending stop surface for engagement with a downwardly depending stop surface formed on the mortises of the modular blocks to prevent relative verticle motion between the blocks and the wedges.
