  • Publication number: 20160312867
Abstract: An electromechanical actuator (“EMA”) is provided with redundant load paths for driving the actuator stroke. The EMA includes a rotatable screw, a nut mated with the screw and having an external toothed surface, and a rotatable spline member having a splined surface engaging the external toothed surface of the nut. An actuator rod is coupled to the nut for linear movement with the nut. A first motor is operable to rotate the screw relative to the nut to cause the nut to travel linearly along the screw, and a second motor is operable to rotate the spline member and nut such that the nut travels linearly along the screw. Consequently, the actuator rod moves linearly by operation of the first motor alone, by operation of the second motor alone, and by simultaneous operation of the first and second motors. A no-back device may be incorporated into each load path.

  • Publication number: 20160023017
Abstract: Lighting systems, methods, and devices for protecting human circadian neuroendocrine function during night use are described. Suitable lighting conditions can be provided for a working environment while protecting the circadian neuroendocrine systems of those occupying the illuminated workplace during the night. Lighting systems, methods, and devices can provide substantive attenuation of the pathologic circadian disruption in night workers. Lighting systems, methods, and devices can attenuate the specific bands of light implicated in circadian disruption. LED lighting systems, methods, and devices can provide increased intensity at a different portion of the spectrum than conventional LEDs, providing a useable white light even when unfavorable portions of the wavelength are attenuated by a notch filter.

  • Patent number: 9241658
Abstract: A system and method for personal fatigue risk management, performed using a smartwatch including a digital processor, associated memory, and an accelerometer for measuring acceleration in X, Y, and Z axes. A signal is received from the accelerometer indicating a movement of the smartwatch, and the value of the signal is stored in association with indicia of the time at which the signal was received in a time-stamped bin. The stored movement values are analyzed using a state algorithm to determine sleep, wake, and off-wrist state values. Fatigue risk values are determined from the sleep and wake state values, using a state algorithm. The probable relative risk of errors and incidents as compared to average risk, for the wearer of the watch, are then calculated. A warning is issued when the fatigue risk data indicates that one of the thresholds has been exceeded.

  • Publication number: 20160009001
Abstract: The invention comprises a pressure casting machine comprising a support and a casting cell, wherein the casting cell is attached to the support such that the casting cell can, in use, be rotated, while at least a portion of the support remains stationary, the machine further comprising a releasable retainer to retain the casting call at a user-desired rotated position. The invention also comprises a method of pressure casting comprising the steps, in this order, of filling a mould, with slip for the purpose of producing a casting when the mould is orientated at a first angle, rotating the mould so that it is orientated at a second angle; and draining the mould. The invention is best illustrated by FIG. 1 of the diagrams.

  • Publication number: 20150355721
Abstract: Methods, program products, and systems for gesture classification and recognition are disclosed. In general, in one aspect, a system can determine multiple motion patterns for a same user action (e.g., picking up a mobile device from a table) from empirical training data. The system can collect the training data from one or more mobile devices. The training data can include multiple series of motion sensor readings for a specified gesture. Each series of motion sensor readings can correspond to a particular way a user performs the gesture. Using clustering techniques, the system can extract one or more motion patterns from the training data. The system can send the motion patterns to mobile devices as prototypes for gesture recognition.

  • Patent number: 9203412
Abstract: A circuit includes first and second signal networks, a driver circuit, and a bypass circuit. The driver circuit generates a first signal based on a second signal during a normal mode. The second signal is received from the first signal network. The bypass circuit is coupled to the driver circuit to provide a third signal generated based on the first signal to the second signal network during the normal mode. The bypass circuit receives a fourth signal from the first signal network during a test mode. The bypass circuit generates a fifth signal based on the fourth signal. The fifth signal is provided to the second signal network during the test mode. The bypass circuit prevents the driver circuit from driving a signal to the second signal network during the test mode.
