  • Patent number: 6330614
Abstract: In Internet and related networks, a method of and system for substitute use of the normal checksum field space in information processing (IP) datagram headers for obviating current processing time and addressing space limitations, involving replacing the current checksum usage in the checksum field with its attendant processing time with further source host and destination host addresses of lesser processing time, thereby increasing the address space for the network and decreasing the require header processing time, and/or providing space for autonomous system numbers, a higher layer protocol-based routing information (including of the MPLS type) or for Virtual Private Networks Indentifiers in the header.

  • Patent number: 5611833
Abstract: One forms spherical or spheroidal glass particles by entraining a powder of glass particles in a carrier gas and injecting the entrained particles into the center of the flame of an oxygen-fuel burner. Separate conduits carry fuel, such as natural gas, and substantially pure oxygen into the burner to support combustion. The temperature in the burner flame does not exceed about 5000.degree. F. Heat from the flame causes the particles to become spheroidal, due to surface tension, but the particles do not remain in the flame long enough to melt. By adjusting a valve in the line which conveys the carrier gas and glass particles, one varies the time during which the particles reside in the flame. If the pressure becomes too high, the residence time decreases, and the particles may not become entirely spheroidal. If the pressure becomes too low, the residence time increases, and the particles may melt and/or form undesirable filaments.

  • Patent number: 5406260
Abstract: A system and method are provided for monitoring the connection of electronic equipment, such as remote computer workstations, to a network via a communication link and detecting the disconnection of such equipment from the network. The system includes current loops internally coupled to protected pieces of equipment so that each piece of associated equipment has an associated current loop. A low current power signal is provided to each of the current loops. A sensor monitors the current flow through each current loop to detect removal of the equipment from the network. Removal of a piece of hardware breaks the current flow through the associated current loop which in turn may activate an alarm. This invention is particularly adapted to be used with an existing 10BaseT communication link or equivalent thereof, employing existing wiring to form the current loops.

  • Patent number: 4931013
Abstract: This invention concerns the burning of fuels, such as natural gas, at high temperatures. The invention includes a high-efficiency burner which achieves substantially complete combusiton at modest cost. The burner of the present invention includes a generally cylindrical housing having a central bore and two concentric annular regions. A lance is inserted through the central bore, and protrudes slightly from the front face of the burner housing. The fuel is directed through the inner annular region, and oxygen-enriched combustion air is directed through the outer annular region. Substantially pure oxygen is directed through the lance. The gases in the lance and the annular regions do not communicate with each other within the burner housing, and all burnign takes place outside the housing. The same supply of oxygen can be used to supply the lance and to enrich the combustion air.
