  • Patent number: 11012828
Abstract: A mobile device is configurable to accommodate multiple personas and associated profiles. Once the mobile device is triggered to configure itself with a selected persona/profile, no more information is required by a user (the provider of the trigger) of the mobile device. Each persona/profile is autonomous from any other persona/profile with which the mobile device can be configured. A persona is indicative of a personality, role, or identity portrayed by the device, such as a phone number, for example. A profile is indicative of functions associated with a persona. The mobile device is easily reconfigured via simple UI operations.

  • Publication number: 20110051646
Abstract: When multiple mobile devices request the same content, rather than initiating a dedicated session for providing the content to each respective device, a multicast session is dynamically established to provide the content to all the devices. After the multicast session is established, respective additional requesters of the content are dynamically added to the multicast session responsive to each request. In an example configuration, a Service Center receives a request to provide content to a mobile device in a cellular site and determines if multicasting is warranted, the cellular site in which the mobile device is located, and, if warranted, initiates a multicast session and allocates resources for providing the content to the mobile device in that cellular site. As additional requests for the content are received from other mobile devices, the Service Center dynamically, upon each request, adds the requesters to the multicast session.

  • Publication number: 20110055891
Abstract: Security of a device, such as a mobile device, is maintained via a heartbeat signal. As long as the heartbeat signal is detected, the device is allowed to perform operations. If the heartbeat signal is not detected, appropriate action is taken. Appropriate action can include powering down the device, restricting access to files, erasing files, erasing the contents of a disk on the device, preventing access to designated files, reporting the location of the device, and/or preventing the device from being turned on after it is turned off. In an example configuration, the heartbeat signal is a low-power consuming, low data rate, signal allowing for processing of the heartbeat signal to be accomplished, at least in part, via the SIM of the device.

  • Publication number: 20100061533
Abstract: A method for providing telephony services in an IP network includes enabling a first telephony device to adopt a telephony profile of a second telephony device in response to a telephony profile event (TPE). The telephony profile defines a set of telephony services, features, and configurations associated with the end user. The TPE may be the insertion of a portable storage device (PSD) into a port of the first telephony device. The PSD may be implemented, for example, as a USB compliant memory stick. The PSD includes a storage medium embedding telephony profile information. In some embodiments, the TPE may be a request, generated by a network resource, for the telephony profile. The telephony profile request may be generated by the first telephony device itself, e.g., when an end user or administrator asserts a predetermined button, soft button, or other control element of the telephony device.

  • Patent number: 7142649
Abstract: A data modem aggregator system and a method of initializing a data modem is disclosed. In a particular embodiment, the data modem aggregator system includes a plurality of data ports configured to communicate data traffic. The data traffic is carried over dedicated data twisted pair lines. The data modem aggregator system further includes shared data processing resources to process the data traffic communicated over the plurality of data ports and a high-speed multiplexed output responsive to the plurality of data ports and the shared resources. In a particular embodiment, the method of initializing a data connection for a data modem includes detecting power-on of the data modem, handshaking from the data modem with a far end connection, negotiating a data rate with the far end connection, and communicating data between the data modem and the far end connection over a dedicated data twisted pair line.
