  • Patent number: 4938086
Abstract: A window operator and assembly method therefor wherein a stacked pull arm and gear are rotatably mounted on a bushing carried by a mounting base and the gear and pull arm are assembled to the mounting base with a controlled clearance independent of the tolerance of these components by use of a hardened metal bushing. The hardened metal bushing is forced into the deformable metal of the mounting base whatever distance is necessary to locate an exposed end of the bushing a fixed distance beyond the uppermost of said gear and pull arm and provide a surface against which a washer may be mounted and which overlies the pull arm and gear to hold the components in assembled relation with the controlled clearance.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: July 3, 1990
    Assignee: Truht Incorporated

  • Patent number: 4593431
Abstract: A snap stud usable in window hardware, such as window operators and window hinges, for releasably pivotally interconnecting a pair of members. The snap stud has a stud extending from a first of the members and provided with an external peripheral groove which mounts a C-ring of spring music wire. The C-ring has a retention position partially extending beyond the periphery of the stud for overlying a second of the members and a compressed release position substantially entirely within the periphery of the stud, with the movement of the C-ring to the compressed release position occurring automatically in assembly and disassembly of said members.

  • Patent number: 4505601
Abstract: The bearing assembly has an externally-threaded retainer bearing threaded into a housing of deformable metal for rotatably supporting and maintaining a worm gear shaft in position. The retainer bearing has a plurality of flat sides with a spanner wrench slot at the outer end of each side whereby a flat side and spanner wrench slot of the retainer bearing can be located at a particular location relative to the housing and material of the housing is deformed into the space between the flat side of the retainer bearing and the threaded bore of the housing as well as into the spanner wrench slot to securely lock the retainer bearing in position.

  • Patent number: 4445794
Abstract: The self-locking threaded bearing is an externally threaded tubular member having a discontinuous thread to form thread sections which are spaced-apart axially on the bearing. In the bearing assembly, the thread sections engage portions of an internal thread in a bore of a housing for the bearing and, with the internal thread being more ductile than the thread sections of the bearing, portions of the internal thread are stripped to pack into the space between the thread sections and assist in locking the bearing into the housing. In the method of making the self-locking threaded bearing assembly, a tubular bearing is provided with a discontinuous external thread and a housing is formed with a bore having an internal thread of the same pitch as the external thread of the bearing and of material more ductile than that of the external thread.

  • Patent number: 4346372
Abstract: A conventional roto-gear window operator for a casement or awning window, or the like, is provided with an alarm switch. The alarm switch consists of a conductive wire which is connected to a remote alarm package and is insulated from the base of the operator. One end of the wire is fixedly held adjacent to the helix of the operator worm gear so as to provide intermittent wiping contact when the worm gear is rotated. The worm gear is electrically conductive and, through the operator base, is connected to a lead wire which also extends to the alarm package. Accordingly, rotation of the worm gear (to actuate the operator) opens and closes the switch by engagement and disengagement of the wire with the worm gear helix, generating a sequence of pulses which triggers the alarm package.
