  • Publication number: 20030147564
Abstract: Hybrid interpolation methods are provided that employ more than one interpolation algorithm and choose the most appropriate interpolation algorithm that provides high quality images with a minimum processing time. Prediction means is first applied to predict which interpolation is most appropriate for a given pixel in terms of complexity and performance. Then, a simple interpolation algorithm is used for pixels for which the simple interpolation algorithm provides acceptable performances and a complex interpolation algorithm is used for pixels for which the complex interpolation algorithm, which requires a larger number of operations, significantly outperforms the simple interpolation algorithm. Consequently, it is possible to obtain high quality images without significantly increasing the processing time.

  • Publication number: 20030128296
Abstract: A video display apparatus with separate display means is provided so that the textual information can be displayed without preventing viewers from watching the full picture. The separate display means can be provided for a television receiver so that textual information, which includes closed caption text and subtitles, can be displayed on the separate display means without occupying the picture area. The separate display means can be provided for a screen in a movie theater so that subtitles can be displayed on the separate display means when a foreign movie is played. The separate display unit can be used to display other textual information, including a channel number, a name of the broadcasting station, the title of the current program and the remaining time of the current program. Furthermore, the separate display unit can display information on a local weather and a local time.

  • Publication number: 20030058347
Abstract: Methods and systems for efficient video compression by recording various state signals of cameras. In accordance with the teaching of the present invention, a video camera with means to record the movement, zooming state, focus state, and aperture state of the video camera is provided. The luminous intensity, camera identification number and frame index are also recorded. These various state signals are recorded along with video and audio signals on recording media, such as magnetic tapes, memory cards, and hard drives in a predetermined data format. Additionally, video compression algorithms, which utilize such state signals to predict the current frame from previous reconstructed images, are provided. In particular, the information on the various states of the video camera is useful in obtaining accurate motion compensated images.

  • Publication number: 20020073422
Abstract: Methods and systems for transmitting and capturing the information of a future program whose preview is currently being broadcast and watched by a viewer. When a television station is broadcasting a preview for a future program, it transmits subsidiary or hidden information on the future program including a title, a broadcasting date, a channel number, a broadcasting time, description, and duration of the future program. Furthermore, the television station includes a special mark in the preview video signal. If a viewer is interested in the future program, the viewer can push a button in the remote control, which has the same special mark. Then the television saves the information on the future program and alerts the viewer to the program when it is about to be broadcast. If the television has an access to recording means, it may automatically record the program if the television is turned off when the program is about to be broadcast.

  • Patent number: 5261161
Abstract: An electric vacuum shaver incorporating a vacuum to effectively draw long thin hair into the shearing foil. A space control device is provided so that a vacuum can be better utilized and a proper space can be maintained between the shearing foil and the skin to help long hair to be effectively drawn into the shearing foil without being pressed. The shearing foil and the cutter can be designed in special shapes cooperating with the enclosure to accommodate various hair conditions without adjusting the space between the skin and the shearing foil. Optionally, a disconnecting device is provided to disconnect power to the fan when there is little space between the shearing foil and the skin to prevent the shearing foil from sticking to the skin.
