    Abstract: In a magnetic disk drive system, an apparatus for facilitating movement of a transducer head carriage relative to a rotating magnetic disk and stationary chassis, including a three-arm band actuator for coupling a stepper motor to the carriage, and an extruded metal carriage base for retaining linear bearings which ride along a track as the carriage is advanced by the stepper motor. An "S" shaped ribbon cable connects the transducer head to the chassis, and expands and contracts as the carriage moves.
