  • Publication number: 20040240190
Abstract: A communication card has a bottom panel, a top cover and a top panel, which is able to accommodate an electronic device. The electronic device has a circuit board and a RF transceiver coupling to the circuit board. The circuit board further comprises at least a metallic ground layer extending along the whole area of the circuit board, such that the dissipation of EMI from the backside of the circuit board can be prevented. The bottom panel and the top panel are both made of an electromagnetic wave penetrable material, and the top cover is made of an electromagnetic wave impenetrable material. The connecting means that can inter-engage with each other are respectively applied on the bottom panel and the top cover, and between the bottom panel and the top panel. After assembling, the circuit board is substantially positioned between the top cover and the bottom panel, and the RF transceiver is substantially positioned between the top panel and the bottom panel.

  • Patent number: 6147653
Abstract: A balanced dipole antenna for a mobile phone comprises a radiator element and a counterpoise, both formed of a conducting material. The counterpoise is electrically isolated from the ground plane of a printed wire board (PWB) of the mobile phone. A matching network, for example, a balun, provides balanced current to the dipole antenna, resulting in a symmetric radiation pattern. The balanced dipole antenna allows superior performance over conventional antennas found in mobile phones today by enabling a user of a mobile phone to communicate effectively and uniformly in all directions, that is, 360 degrees.

  • Patent number: 6134421
Abstract: A cradle can be mounted in a vehicle, or other suitable location, for supporting a wireless dual-frequency telephone that includes an antenna. The cradle includes a plastic housing and a ground plane disposed in the housing. A trough-shaped feed coupler element is electrically connected to matching circuits and an input/output connector. A first parasitic coupler element is aligned with the feed coupler element, and connected to the ground plane, and electromagnetically couples signals having a first frequency to and from the antenna. Together, the elements hold the antenna of the telephone. Also, a second parasitic element is disposed adjacent the feed coupler element for electromagnetically coupling signals to and from the antenna, that have a second frequency. If desired, the ground plane is established by a first conductive board and a second conductive board elevated above the first board.
