  • Patent number: 6035519
Abstract: A system for ensuring correct orientation of a threaded insert being inserted into a threaded bore of an aluminum workpiece such as an engine block. The system comprises a threaded insert supply, a feeder for transporting inserts dispensed from the insert supply, and an orient subassembly for dispensing the insert supplied from the feeder into a workpiece bore. The orient subassembly dispenses the insert into the workpiece bore in a tang-down orientation if the insert is supplied to the orient subassembly in a tang-down position. The orient subassembly reorients the insert if the insert is supplied to the orient subassembly in a tang-up position before the insert is dispensed into the workpiece bore.

  • Patent number: 5733089
Abstract: In a nosepiece/receiver assembly having a housing for receiving a part, a removable jaw mechanism that is mounted for pivotable movement against a biasing spring. The jaw member has a contoured surface for holding a part received by the nosepiece/receiver assembly when the jaw member is in a part holding position. The jaw member includes channel at one end for enabling the jaw member to pivot about a securing member of the assembly to a part releasing position. The jaw member may consist of either two cooperating movable jaws or one separate jaw. The jaw mechanism also includes a resilient biasing device for urging the jaw member into a part holding position. The biasing device is in contact with both the housing of the nosepiece/receiver assembly and the jaw member, with at least a portion of the resilient biasing device being external to the jaw member to allow easy replacement of the biasing device. The biasing device is positioned to minimize the chance of breakage of the jaw.

  • Patent number: 5069362
Abstract: A fastener feeding machine is provided with a plurality of fluid powered escapements for selecting and delivering fasteners in a predetermined sequence and orientation. The fastener feeding machine includes a manifold body with individual mounting stations at which the escapements are positioned. The manifold body includes a plurality of ports located at the mounting stations to communicate with the escapements and thereby provide for control of the escapements through a central pressurized fluid supply. An escapement mounting arrangement on the manifold body allows for quick detachment of the individual escapements, and simultaneous sealing of individual ports upon re-attachment.
