  • Patent number: 5192182
Abstract: A noiseless fan having a group of parallel and thin, closely spaced disks rotatable at relatively high speed. As the disks rotate, boundary layers of air on the disk surfaces rotate bodies of air between the disks while centrifugal force developed by the rotating disks drives the air radially outward to be expelled into the atomosphere. Intake air is admitted axially through central openings in the disks and is directed radially outward into the spaces between the disks to displace the expelled air.

  • Patent number: 5191247
Abstract: A cooling fan positioned within the casing of an electric motor comprising a plurality of closely spaced frusto-conical disks carried by the motor shaft which draw intake air past the motor rotor and stator when they are rotated. Bodies of air between the rotating disks are then thrown radially outward by centrifugal force and directed to exhaust vents formed in the casing.

  • Patent number: 5165846
Abstract: A motor driven fan having a plurality of annular disks carried by a drive shaft of the motor in closely spaced, parallel relationship. At relatively high motor speeds, bodies of air between the disks are sheared from boundary layers of the air adhering to the sides of the disks and expelled radially outward by centrifugal force acting on them. An annular plate carried by the disk assembly has a cylindrical skirt encircling the disk peripheries which deflects air expelled from between the disks toward the motor to cool it.

  • Patent number: 4534699
Abstract: A turbine for operating on pressurized gaseous products of combustion resulting from the burning of coal and which gaseous products contain fly ash. The turbine includes a housing that supports a power take off shaft on which a rotor is mounted that includes a central circular plate that supports an equal number of first and second ring shaped discs on opposite sides thereof, with the first discs being of substantially greater diameter than the second discs. The second disc cooperates to define a number of first inwardly extending passages therebetween, and the second ring shaped discs cooperate with the first ring shaped discs to form second passages therebetween of substantially less width than the first passages.

  • Patent number: 4403911
Abstract: A bladeless pump that includes a housing that defines a circular confined space of substantial width into which either a single phase fluid or multiphase fluid is sequentially introduced through a centrally disposed inlet in a first side of the housing to be subjected to boundary layer rotational drag by at least one substantially smooth disc that rotates in the confined space intermediate the first and second side pieces of the housing and parallel thereto. The pump is capable of pumping a multiphase fluid such as that from a geothermal well that includes water, dissolved solids, steam and gas vapor, or a fluid in which the outer phase is water and the inner phase may range through such diverse materials as particled coal, marine animals such as fish, shrimp and crustaceans, and edibles that include fruits, vegetables and berries, as well as metallic objects of which steel ball bearings is an example. The pump has the capability of pumping beer without appreciably frothing the latter.

  • Patent number: 4347033
Abstract: A method of transferring flowable concrete containing aggregate to a desired location at substantially constant rate without sharp variations in pressure and a power driven pump that may be used to carry out the method. The pump requires no valves, is highly abrasive resistant, has a high constant flow rate discharge due to not operating intermittently, and subjects the conduit or hose through which the concrete discharges to a minimum of strain as the concrete flows at a substantially constant rate therethrough with no sharp variations in pressure, and with minimum frictional resistance.

  • Patent number: 4347032
Abstract: In the method of the present invention, the slurry as it flows from a source thereof is pre-rotated prior to entering a circular vertical confined space that has a cut water discharge in the upper portion thereof. The pre-rotating slurry upon entering the confined space is subjected to the rotary action of first and second laterally spaced circular surfaces that have a number of laterally spaced ring-shaped surfaces situated therebetween. The circular surfaces and ring-shaped surfaces are power driven and rotate concurrently as a unit. As such rotation takes place, the boundary layers of slurry that adhere to the circular surfaces and ring-shaped surfaces are sheared from the balance of the slurry, and the slurry in the confined space rotating as a result thereof. As a result of this rotation, the slurry in the confined space sequentially discharges through the cut water to be replaced by pre-rotating slurry that enters the confined space.

  • Patent number: 4232992
Abstract: A turbine and method of using the same to generate rotational power from a desired geothermal source from which a multi-phase pressurized and heated fluid is discharged, which fluid contains steam and particles of water, and may contain particles of solid material. The turbine includes a rotor plate with a number of spaced discs secured to opposite sides thereof that are rotatably supported in a housing, and the housing having two laterally spaced sets of circumferentially disposed nozzle bodies situated therein that are each adjustable to define a convergent section, a throat and a diverging section. The nozzle bodies are so adjustable that streams of fluid at maximum velocity for a multi-phase fluid having particular characteristics as to heat, pressure and water droplet content discharge tangentially onto the two sets of spaced discs to flow through the spaces therebetween in spiral paths to discharge through openings in the centers thereof.

  • Patent number: 4186554
Abstract: A power producing constant speed rotary turbine in which an elongate shaft is rotatably supported in longitudinally spaced, axially aligned first and second housings that have a housing assembly disposed thereinbetween. The first housing rotatably supports a power take-off that is driven by a series of reduction gears operatively connected to the shaft. The second housing envelops an output power turbine rotor defined by a series of thin, circular, coaxially aligned, laterally spaced discs of high temperature metals or high temperature ceramic such as hot pressed silicon nitride that are operatively connected to the shaft.A compressor rotor is mounted in an intermediate position on the shaft and rotates within the housing assembly, which assembly has an air inlet therein. As the compressor rotor rotates in the housing assembly, air is discharged to first and second groups of diffuser tubes that extend to first and second volute casings.

  • Patent number: 4056209
Abstract: A child proof medication bottle including a female, interiorly threaded opening adapted for dispensing medication in pill form or similar use, provided with a male, externally threaded cap, inserted into the female opening. On insertion, the male cap or plug is received within the opening to a depth wherein only a hemispherical projection is exposed outside the confines of the bottle. This smooth hemispherical projection lacks the necessary grasping surfaces for withdrawal thereof and is thus rendered child proof. The bottom end of the bottle is similarly shaped in the form of a hemisphere adapted for receipt in the interior of the cylindrical key structure provided with a flat end for upright support and including two key elements insertable into corresponding slots formed in the hemispherical surface of the cap. Thus the cylindrical key structure may be utilized to open providing a reminder to the user to return the key to its stored position.

  • Patent number: 4050636
Abstract: An energy saving garbage disposal unit that is disposed under a tank and connected to the drain thereof in a conventional manner. Actuation of the unit is provided by pressurized water from a domestic source thereof. Pressurized water entering the unit serves a twofold purpose; first, driving a turbine to actuate a garbage masticating assembly, and second, after discharge from the turbine the water mixing with masticated garbage and serving to flush the latter down a waste line that extends from the unit. The unit masticates garbage to particles of a predetermined size prior to discharging the particles to the waste line, with the possibility of the waste line becomming clogged or stopped up by garbage particles of substantial size being reduced to a minimum.

  • Patent number: 4043036
Abstract: A power driven shaver of the type that includes a housing that has a prime mover therein, with one end of the housing supporting a transverse thin curved shield. The shield has a number of longitudinally and circumferentially spaced slots therein that are of such dimension that whiskers may extend therethrough. A number of helical shaped blades are rotated by the prime mover in close proximity to the interior surface of the shield, with the blades serving to sever inwardly projecting portions of the whisker by a rotating slicing action. The present power driven shaver is free of vibration, and exerts no uncomfortable pulling action on whiskers as they are severed, or the whiskers as they are cut are not compressed or pinched.
