  • Patent number: 6086823
Abstract: The flat case comprises a case body (1) comprising at least one wall (2) defining a disinfecting chamber (10) open at one end and intended to take a lens (50) to be disinfected, at least one removable cap (20) intended to be fixed on the open end of the chamber, at least one catalytic element secured to the cap (20) capable of being immersed in the disinfecting solution (10) and comprising a catalyst support and a catalyst (34) and at least one protective element (30) secured to the cap (20) having an end wall (32) provided with passages (33) for the disinfecting solution, forming a barrier between the lens (50) and the catalytic element, and at the same time holding the lens securely. The invention has application to the disinfecting of contact lenses.

  • Patent number: 4879072
Abstract: In this method of manufacturing a flexible contact lens from a protein biological material, such as a protein polymer of the gelatine type or a type IV enriched human collagen, a hydrogel is first made by hydrating the protein biological material, in water or a physiological serum. A lens preform is then made from the hydrogel at a temperature between ambient temperature and the temperature at which the material liquefies, at which temperature the hydrogel has a paste-like consistency. This preform, which reproduces the shape of the finished lens with a greater or lesser degree of accuracy, but always with excess material, is then placed in a mold made from a low-loss dielectric material. The mold is in at least two parts which, when locked together, define a three-dimensional shape and a finished lens surface state. The hydrogel is then liquefied by irradiating the mold with an electromagnetic field at a frequency between 10.sup.8 and 10.sup.10 Hz.

  • Patent number: 4561737
Abstract: A contact lens has a rear surface, a front surface and a peripheral edge surface extending between the front and rear surfaces. The peripheral edge surface extends generally forwardly and obliquely from the rear surface to the front surface. The invention is more particularly, but not exclusively, applicable to flexible contact lenses, such as contact lenses manufactured of silicone and similar materials, for example.

  • Patent number: 4211384
Abstract: A molding assembly for casting soft contact lenses especially such lenses formed of hydrophobic material. Such a molding assembly comprises a molding cavity defined by the dies of the assembly and an annular gasket or sealing member joining the peripheries thereof. The perimeter of largest diameter of the molding cavity is defined by contact between a sealing ridge which is part of the concave die or the gasket or sealing member and a bearing surface which is part of the other of the concave die or the gasket or sealing member. The annular gasket or sealing member may have an annular skirt adapted to embrace the concave die in the closed position of the assembly. The gasket or sealing member is carried by the convex die and may be integrally formed in one piece with the convex mold.
