  • Patent number: 5388765
Abstract: A planar top plate (32) has film cooling slots (34) therein. A rigid honeycomb structure (38) sealingly joins this top plate with bottom plate (36). Cooling air distributed by openings (50) impinges on the top plate and passes through metering openings (48) to the slots. A flat wall surface with reduced aerodynamic losses is maintained and the uniform support of the top plate avoids local distortion which would crack any heat resistant coating applied thereto.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 18, 1990
Date of Patent: February 14, 1995
    Assignee: United Technologies Corporation
Inventors: James D. Hill, Claude R. Stogner, Anthony M. Zimmerman
  • Patent number: 4756053
Abstract: First and second flaps (10, 12) are joined at a hinge joint formed by a hollow hinge pin (22) passing through alternating lug extensions (18, 20) of the first and second flaps (10, 12). A plurality of flow openings (24) in the hollow hinge pin (22) are provided for establishing fluid communication between the interior of the first flap (10) and the interior of the second flap (12).

  • Patent number: 4739931
Abstract: A transverse pivotable flap is cantilevered between movable sidewall members (10) which include a stub flap (14). A removable central flap portion (18) is secured between the stub flats (10) by a pair of joints (26) having alternating lug sets 28, 30, secured by respective elongated pins (32, 34). Flow area (40) is provided to conduct internal cooling air (16) into the central flap portion (18).

  • Patent number: 4523864
Abstract: The thrust loads imposed on tandem ball bearings are equalized by incorporating teeter-totters on either side of the outer races that engage the ends of the outer races and a slidably mounted concentric carrier.

  • Patent number: H500
Abstract: A high strength, lightweight exhaust nozzle flap assembly (22) includes a first flap (26) with integral sidewall disks (34, 35) for imparting moments (72, 73) to a cantilevered flap (26) for reducing the mid span deflection of the flap (26) due to internal nozzle static gas pressure. A second flap (42) is also provided with thrust bearings (80, 81) for establishing a combined structure with further resistance to deflection.
