  • Publication number: 20230203937
Abstract: Methods and systems for determining caving volume estimations based on logging data and geomechanical models are provided. For example, a system can receive image log data measured during a drilling operation in a wellbore. The system can receive an identification of a breakout in a subterranean formation around the wellbore. The system can determine, using the image log data, a breakout angular width for the breakout. The system can determine a breakout depth for the breakout. The system can determine a caving volume based on the breakout depth and the breakout angular width substantially contemporaneously with the drilling operation. The system can output the caving volume estimation for use in substantially contemporaneously adjusting a drilling parameter for the drilling operation.

  • Publication number: 20220316310
Abstract: The disclosure presents processes for updating a prediction for the basin model and compaction model for a borehole. The results of the predicted parameters can be utilized by a drilling controller to adjust a drilling process, such as rotational speed, drilling fluid composition, drilling fluid additives, and other drilling process parameters. The predictions can be updated at various time intervals, such as real-time or near real-time for data collected by downhole sensors and a different time interval for sensor data collected at a lag time, such as cuttings analyzed by surface sensors. Throughout a drilling stage, the drilling process can be updated as new sensor data is received, allowing the uncertainty of the predictions to be reduced as new data is incorporated into the basin and compaction models, thereby enabling an increase in efficiency and optimization of the drilling process.

  • Patent number: 11091989
Abstract: A system can determine properties associated with a plurality of wellbore zones extending radially outward from a wellbore of a drilling operation. The system can determine an operating window for a drilling pressure of the drilling operation based on the properties associated with the plurality of wellbore zones. The system can access real-time data for the plurality of wellbore zones during the drilling operation. The system can determine an adjusted operating window for the drilling pressure based on the real-time data. The system can output a command to adjust, in real time, at least one drilling parameter of the drilling operation based on the adjusted operating window.
