Patent number: 11117583Abstract: A brake system for an articulated vehicle is disclosed. The brake system includes a brake assembly coupled to a traction device, the brake assembly being configured to apply a brake-assembly pressure based on one of a hydro-mechanical pressure signal and an electro-mechanical pressure signal. A blocking valve is configured to block the hydro-mechanical pressure signal when closed. A brake controller, is configured to transmit an isolation signal configured to close the blocking valve and transmit an ABS control signal that is based on a commanded ABS brake pressure.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2019Date of Patent: September 14, 2021Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Clayton D. Patent number: 8282706Abstract: An engine exhaust after-treatment system is provided, which may include a particulate trap configured to remove at least some constituents of the exhaust flowing from an engine through an exhaust system. The system may also include a controller configured to collect in-service data related to an operating parameter indicative of the amount of time the engine operates. In addition, the system may include a memory device attached to the particulate trap and including a memory. The memory may be configured to store usage data indicative of how much time the particulate trap has been used in service. The memory may be configured to communicate with the controller to receive information related to the in-service data collected by the controller and update the usage data in the memory, based on the communication with the controller, to reflect a total amount of time the particulate trap has been in service.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2012Date of Patent: October 9, 2012Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Matthew E. Leustek, Michael P. Withrow, Clayton D. Walenta

Patent number: 7520266Abstract: A fuel injector for an engine is disclosed. The fuel injector has a plunger disposed within a bore, a nozzle member, a valve needle, a check valve, a spill valve, and a controller. The check valve is movable between a first position at which the valve needle is communicated with the bore, and a second position at which the valve needle is fluidly communicated with a drain. The spill valve is movable between a first position at which fuel flows from the bore to the drain, and a second position at which the fuel from the bore is blocked. The controller moves the spill valve toward its second position and the check valve toward its second position during a downward displacing movement of the plunger. The controller detects an unsuccessful movement of the check valve to the second position, and prematurely halts the current injection event in response to the detection.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2006Date of Patent: April 21, 2009Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Travis E. Barnes, Rammohan Sankar, Clayton D. Walenta, Christopher F. Gallmeyer

Patent number: 7263426Abstract: A control system for an engine having a combustion chamber is disclosed. The control system has a first sensor, a second sensor, and a third sensor. The first sensor generates a signal indicative of ambient air pressure. The second sensor generates a signal indicative of the pressure of air entering the combustion chamber. The third sensor generates a signal indicative of a speed of the engine. The control system also has a controller configured to reference a first map to determine a first fuel limit value based on the pressure of air entering the combustion chamber and the speed of the engine, reference a second map to determine a second fuel limit value based on the pressure of air entering the combustion chamber and the speed of the engine, and determine a third fuel limit value based on the first and second fuel limit values and the ambient air pressure.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2005Date of Patent: August 28, 2007Assignee: Caterpillar IncInventors: Michael P.
