  • Patent number: 5314016
Abstract: A method for controlling a rod pumped well to limit the amount of time the pumping system is subject to fluid pound. The method monitors various pumping system parameters and shuts the pumping system down just before pump-off occurs.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 19, 1993
Date of Patent: May 24, 1994
    Assignee: Shell Oil Company
    Inventor: Cleon L. Dunham
  • Patent number: 5237863
Abstract: A method for monitoring a rod pumped well and detecting when the well is pumped off. The method utilizes the measured rod load and position for each stroke to set load limits and position limits. The load limits and position limits are set as predetermined percentages of the difference between the maximum and minimum measured rod load and position. The area within the thus determined load and position limits is determined to detect when the well has pumped-off.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 6, 1991
Date of Patent: August 24, 1993
    Assignee: Shell Oil Company
