    Abstract: An elongate mast section that when joined to at least one further section along the longitudinal edges thereof forms a mast. Each longitudinal edge has a U-shaped portion including a protruding flange which is joined to the corresponding flange of the adjacent section by means of a joining strip. A wedge is driven between the bases of the flanges to force the flanges into firm frictional engagement with the joining strips to complete the basic mast.
