  • Publication number: 20040147818
Abstract: A system, housed as a portable monitoring unit, monitors and processes signal parameters acquired from a patient in multiple operational modes. A data acquisition processor receives patient parameter data from a plurality of different patient attached sensors and processes that data to provide processed patient parameter data. An image reproduction device displays processed patient parameter data. A communication interface communicates the processed patient parameter data to the image reproduction device for display and concurrently communicates the processed patient parameter data to either a docking station when said portable monitoring unit is docked in said docking station in a first mode or a network access point coupled to a communication network via wireless communication in a second mode. A power unit re-charges a battery in the portable monitoring unit in the first mode.

  • Patent number: 5685314
Abstract: A monitor system for acquiring medical data from a plurality of sensors adapted for coupling to a patient located in a given patient monitoring area. The system comprises a portable monitor, a peripheral device, and a docking station. The portable monitor is adapted to be coupled to the plurality of sensors for receiving, processing and displaying patient data signals acquired from the plurality of sensors The peripheral device requires connection to the monitoring system, and comprises, i.e., a strip chart recorder. The docking station is located within the given patient monitoring area and includes at least first and second docking station platforms adapted for being selectively coupled to the portable monitor and the peripheral device respectively, for providing data transfer between the peripheral device and the portable monitor while the portable monitor acquires medical data from the patient.

  • Patent number: 5375604
Abstract: Patient monitoring apparatus for use in an environment which includes a communications network and a plurality of sensors. The apparatus provides collection and display of patient data signals collected from a medical patient using the sensors. The apparatus comprises a portable monitor coupled to a plurality of data acquisition modules, which are in turn coupled to the sensors. The data acquisition modules include cartridges, which mount on the portable monitor, and independently positionable pods. The pods reduce the number of cables extending between the patient's bed and the portable monitor by combining signals from many sensors into a single output signal for transmission to the monitor. The modules collect patient data in analog form from the sensors and provide digital data signals to the monitor. The portable monitor includes: a display device for displaying the patient data, and storage for the patient data. The portable monitor is coupled to the docking station.
