Publication number: 20230324291Abstract: A passive optical methane detection and monitoring system for fixed-position installation is disclosed. The system disclosed can be a compact scannable field of view Near Infrared (NIR) filter photometer to detect and quantify methane concentration. A randomized fiber optic bundle is disclosed that can be used to direct the randomized total optical power from a collection lens to two or more isolated optical channels. Band pass filters isolate a desired wavelength range for transmission measurements for the two or more channels. Also disclosed is a dynamic detection mode that works as a flag to detect a plume of methane moving within the field of view. In other embodiments, a second methane detection device can be added at a second perimeter position to provide a three dimensional concentration grid.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 17, 2023Publication date: October 12, 2023Applicant: Blue Sky Measurements, Inc.Inventors: John Lievois, Tanner Lievois, Clifford Ray Hawkins

Publication number: 20080106977Abstract: A marine seismic exploration method and system comprised of continuous recording, self-contained ocean bottom pods characterized by low profile casings. An external bumper is provided to promote ocean bottom coupling and prevent fishing net entrapment. Pods are tethered together with flexible, non-rigid, non-conducting cable used to control pod deployment. Pods are deployed and retrieved from a boat deck configured to have a storage system and a handling system to attach pods to cable on-the-fly. The storage system is a juke box configuration of slots wherein individual pods are randomly stored in the slots to permit data extraction, charging, testing and synchronizing without opening the pods. A pod may include an inertial navigation system to determine ocean floor location and a rubidium clock for timing. The system includes mathematical gimballing. The cable may include shear couplings designed to automatically shear apart if a certain level of cable tension is reached.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2007Publication date: May 8, 2008Inventors: Clifford Ray, Glenn Fisseler, James Thompson, Hal Haygood

Publication number: 20060212226Abstract: The transmission method utilizes multiple seismic acquisition units within an array as intermediate short range radio receivers/transmitters to pass collected seismic data in relay fashion back to a control station. Any one seismic unit in the array is capable of transmitting radio signals to several other seismic units positioned within radio range of the transmitting unit, thus allowing the system to select an optimal transmission path. Utilizing an array of seismic units permits transmission routes back to a control station to be varied as needed. In transmissions from the most remote seismic unit to the control station, each unit within a string receives seismic data from other units and transmits the received seismic data along with the receiving unit's locally stored seismic data. Preferably, as a transmission is passed along a chain, it is bounced between seismic units so as to be relayed by each unit in the array.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 22, 2006Publication date: September 21, 2006Inventors: Clifford Ray, Glenn Fisseler

Publication number: 20060159524Abstract: A method and apparatus for deployment and retrieval of ocean bottom seismic receivers. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a carrier containing a plurality of receivers attached to a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The carrier comprises a frame in which is mounted a structure for seating and releasing said receivers. The structure may comprise a movable carousel or a movable conveyor or fixed parallel rails or a barrel. In the case of the barrel, the receivers are axially stacked therein. The structure is disposed to deliver said receivers to a discharge port on said frame, where the receivers are removable from said carrier. The apparatus includes a discharge mechanism for removing said receivers from said carrier.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 17, 2005Publication date: July 20, 2006Inventors: James Thompson, Clifford Ray, Glenn Fisseler, Roger Fyffe

Publication number: 20050259516Abstract: A seismic data collection unit having multiple separate geophones/geophone packages positioned in a housing wherein the geophones are offset from a vertical axis so that summing of the geophones' respective outputs minimizes certain noise in the unit's output. Specifically, the offset geophones are physically positioned or mathematically configured so as to be symmetrical about a selected vertical axis in order to cancel out certain noise in a seismic signal. The particular placement of the geophones within the housing is preferably selected so that the vertical axis around which the geophones are positioned passes through the center of gravity of the unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 18, 2004Publication date: November 24, 2005Inventors: Clifford Ray, Glenn Fisseler

Patent number: 4057088Abstract: An apparatus for forming serrated edges in wooden panels for interengagement with abutting panels in a wooden I-beam assembly comprises opposed sets of broaches operable for cutting a toothed serration pattern cleanly and accurately in opposed edges of a stack of up to 40 such panels simultaneously. The panels are loaded in infeed means of the apparatus which transports the stack into position for broaching. The stack of panels is aligned laterally by lateral stack alignment means upon placement of the panels in the infeed means. Longitudinal stack alignment means aligns the stack longitudinally when it is transported by the infeed means to a position for broaching. During broaching the stack is supported on opposed anvils in a manner for forming the serrations symmetrically with respect to each end of the stack, hold down means clamps the stack on the anvils, and actuation means drives the broaches downwardly.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1976Date of Patent: November 8, 1977Assignee: Trus Joist CorporationInventors: Donald Ralph Gross, Nick Lewis Schaefer, John Raymond Russell, Clifford Ray Johnson
