  • Patent number: 5202700
Abstract: An array fed reflector antenna includes a reflector and a distributed feed array. The reflector has a portion with a dual parabolic shape. The distributed feed array transmits and receives a plurality of electromagnetic energy beams simultaneously, and is positioned adjacent the reflector so that the reflector reflects the transmitted and received electromagnetic energy beams. The distributed feed array is offset from the reflector so that a plane wave formed by the transmitted electromagnetic energy beams reflected by the reflector will not substantially impinge the distributed feed array. The antenna also has a beam switching network which is a hybrid network for selectively actuating separate but overlapping portions of the distributed feed array to produce two transmit elevation beams.

  • Patent number: 4539535
Abstract: A circuit for phase shifting a signal has been described incorporating a four port network containing a plurality of impedances wherein each impedance is provided by a transmission line having a predetermined characteristic impedance and predetermined phase length and wherein an input signal is coupled to the first port, an output signal is coupled to the second port, a first diode is coupled to the third port, a second diode is coupled to a fourth port and means for biasing the diodes to be conducting at first times and nonconducting at second times. The phase shifter circuit overcomes the problem of phase error, amplitude modulation and voltage standing wave ratio over a predetermined frequency range.

  • Patent number: 4358746
Abstract: A rotary coupler for coupling a microwave signal to a rotating antenna is disclosed. The preferred embodiment comprises a section of waveguides formed into a circle and split into two pieces along the long wall of the waveguide. The two sections of waveguide are positioned to rotate with respect to each other with energy coupled into one portion of the waveguide along its narrow wall and coupled out of the second portion along its narrow wall. An isolation element is utilized at both the input and output ports to assure directional coupling into the split wall waveguide. More than one of the coupling devices can be monitored around a ship's mast, for example, to couple a plurality of microwave systems to a single multiple bandwidth rotating antenna.

  • Patent number: 4272770
Abstract: A reflector antennae assembly for reducing aperture blockage that includes an etched printed circuit board mounted on the sidewalls of a blocking structure. The board has spaced conductive squares or circles on one plane surface that is parallel to the direction of propagation and E-field of the reflected wave energy.

  • Patent number: 4181897
Abstract: Stimulated emission from a molecular laser gas medium at a pressure in the order of atmospheric pressure is achieved by generating electrons having an average kinetic energy approximately equal to an upper molecular vibrational-rotational energy state within the electronic ground level of the laser gas medium for creating a population inversion between said upper molecular vibrational-rotational state and a lower molecular vibrational-rotational state within the electronic ground level of the molecule laser gas medium.

  • Patent number: 4131896
Abstract: A phased array of dipoles mounted above a ground plane and including capacitance plate elements made of conductive metal mounted at greater distances from ground plane than the dipoles to compensate for variations in impedance over the scan angle of the phase array. With appropriate choice of the dimensions of the capacitance plate, the spacing between the dipole elements and the ground plane, and the spacing between the capacitance plates and the ground plane, the variation of input impedance over the scan angle is greatly reduced for H-plane scan.

  • Patent number: 4052723
Abstract: A phased array radar for providing a beam cluster whose average direction is determined by phase shifters associated with each antenna radiating element, and whose illumination function is determined by the phase and amplitude provided to subarrays of randomly agglomerated radiating elements which provide an aperiodic illumination error function that substantially reduces the grating lobes of the antenna pattern.

  • Patent number: 4047173
Abstract: An FM pulse compression radar for detecting moving targets is described wherein a predetermined sequence of FM signals spaced apart in time is transmitted, each successive FM signal in the sequence having an FM rate determined by a function of the amount of time since the sequence started. A reflected sequence of FM signals may be received wherein signals indicative of a moving target may be integrated in a single range cell.
