  • Patent number: 8915444
Abstract: An imaging module for data collection devices, such as bar code scanners. The module includes an aiming or illumination light source or sources, seated on a support is mounted in a housing. The support is fixed in the housing to provide for its precise placement therein, in a predetermined position.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 12, 2008
Date of Patent: December 23, 2014
    Assignee: Hand Held Products, Inc.
Inventors: William H. Havens, David Stewart Pitou, Laurence Ray McColloch, Charles Paul Barber, Colleen Patricia Gannon
  • Patent number: 7705288
Abstract: An optical reading device comprising a sensor array having pixels which are exposed to an image; an illumination generator for illuminating the image with light, the illumination generator being configured to have a front face; a housing for housing the sensor array, aiming pattern generator and illumination generator for hand held operation, the housing having a window disposed between the illumination generator and the image for permitting transmission of the illuminating light; a lens for focusing light to the sensor array, wherein the lens protrudes through the illumination generator; a gasket disposed around the lens for blocking light reflected off of the window from reaching the sensor array.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 7387252
Abstract: An optical reader comprising: an image sensor array of pixels for converting light reflected from a target containing a machine readable indicia into output signals representative thereof; a housing for holding the image sensor array; a processor for decoding the output signals; receive optics for directing light from the target to the image sensor, the optics having a focal point; a generally cylindrical barrel for containing the receive optics, the barrel having a protrusion provided thereon; a generally cylindrical sleeve for receiving the barrel, the sleeve being secured to the housing and having a shoulder for engagement with the protrusion, wherein moving the protrusion along the shoulder facilitates focusing of the receive optics relative to the image sensor.

  • Patent number: 5808288
Abstract: The invention is an apparatus and method for attaching a lens to a image scanner housing. In the present invention a lens is secured to a housing by a clamping force supplied by a closed peripheral wall which forms a housing tip, and a shelf which is rigidly formed in the housing interior. The closed peripheral wall contacts the top surface of the housing, and the top surface the shelf contacts the bottom surface of the lens, to hold the lens in a secure position. A substantially soft, friction-producing member such as an o-ring may be interposed between the shelf and the lens to absorb shock, to provide a tolerance between the lens and the shelf, and to prevent rotation of the lens.
