    Abstract: Systems and methods of quantum sensing include obtaining information regarding a target signal in electronic spin states of quantum defects in an ensemble of quantum defects, mapping the information regarding the target signal from the electronic spin states of the quantum defects to corresponding nuclear spin states associated with the quantum defects, applying a light pulse to the ensemble of quantum defects to reset the electronic spin states of the quantum defects, and repeating a readout stage a plurality of times within a readout duration. The readout stage includes mapping the information regarding the target signal back from the nuclear spin states to the corresponding electronic spin states and applying a data acquisition readout pulse to optically measure the electronic spin states of the quantum defects.

    Abstract: A method and system of measuring a direct current magnetic field using a plurality of spin centers are disclosed. A spin bath associated with the spin centers may be driven with a first source of electromagnetic radiation to reduce dephasing of the spin centers. The spin centers may be measured using double quantum (DQ) magnetometry in order to reduce the effects of crystal strain on spin dephasing times. An electromagnetic response of at least one of the plurality of spin centers may be observed using an electromagnetic radiation collection device. Accordingly, up to an eight times improvement in DC field sensitivity may be accomplished for a spin center ensemble.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for converting a bioorganic material such as sewage sludge into a wet, organically enriched inorganic fertilzer mix that permits drying and pelletizing into a compact particle fertilizer form. The process provides for effective odour control as well as disinfection of the bioorganic material, which are essentially required in accordance with United States Environmental Protection Agency regulations in relation to land applications of bioorganic materials. The drying and pelletizing process through heating of the fertlizer mix also serves to provide a sterilized particle fertilizer as required by the above regulations for particular applications. The process also provides for chemical reactions to occur that result in the formation of fire retardants which serve to avoid fire hazards that could otherwise be associated with the drying and pelletizing process.

    Abstract: A process for treating sulphate- and metal-containing waste water, includes subjecting, in a reaction stage, the sulphate- and metal-containing waste water to biological sulphate reduction in which sulphates in the waste water are converted to sulphides, with metals present in the waste water precipitating out and treated waste water being obtained. The precipitated metals are withdrawn from the reaction stage, while treated waste water is withdrawn from the reaction stage. The treated waste water is subjected to polishing and/or to nutrient removal.

The sulphide compound reacts with a metal in the waste water to form a corresponding metal sulphide, which precipitates from the waste water. The precipitated metal sulphide is separated from the waste water, to obtain sulphate-containing waste water, which is subjected to biological sulphate reduction in which sulphates in the waste water are converted to sulphides.
