Patent number: 9228740Abstract: An annular injector is described. The injector includes a first bayonet assembly and a second bayonet assembly each including a terminal end and a tip end. The second bayonet assembly is configured to be concentrically coupled at least partially about the first bayonet assembly. An outer diameter of the first bayonet assembly and an inner diameter of the second bayonet assembly vary at the tip end to define a first substantially annular nozzle. The first bayonet assembly includes a maximum outer diameter that is greater than a minimum inner diameter of the second bayonet assembly and at least a portion of at least one of the first bayonet assembly and the second bayonet assembly extends from the tip end to the terminal end. The injector includes a third bayonet assembly configured to be concentrically coupled at least partially about the second bayonet assembly to define a second substantially annular nozzle.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2014Date of Patent: January 5, 2016Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: John Saunders Stevenson, Robert Michael Zirin, Raymond Douglas Steele, Constantin Bugescu, Roger Ma, David R. Patent number: 8828109Abstract: A method of assembling a gasification reactor includes extending an injection device at least partially into the gasification reactor. The injection device includes a plurality of substantially concentric conduits coupled to a modular tip and at least one outer surface. The modular tip includes a plurality of cooling channels and a plurality of substantially annular nozzles defined therein. The method further includes forming at least one layer of insulation about at least a portion of the at least one outer surface to facilitate insulating at least a portion of the injection device from heat within the gasification reactor.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2010Date of Patent: September 9, 2014Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: John Saunders Stevenson, John Duckett Winter, Constantin Bugescu, Kenneth M. Patent number: 5720854Abstract: A purge chamber for purging oxygen from interlocking, solid material, such as shredded tire pieces, prior to further processing of the material in a liquefaction apparatus. The purge chamber includes a chamber for holding interlocking, solid material An entrance port is connected to the chamber for passing the interlocking, solid material into the chamber. A purge device communicates with the chamber for providing a purging gas to the chamber. An exit port of the chamber passes the interlocking, solid material from the chamber. An auger screw mounted in the chamber, when rotated, moves the interlocking, solid material from within the chamber into the exit port.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1996Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Assignee: Texaco Inc.Inventors: Vahan Avetisian, Constantin Bugescu, Craig Joseph Castagnoli, Suk-Bae Cha

Patent number: 5433018Abstract: The present invention includes a purge chamber which includes a chamber holding the interlocking solid material. An entrance port apparatus passes the interlocking solid material into the chamber where it is purged by a purging gas. An exit port apparatus passes the solid interlocking solid material from the chamber. Located within the chamber is other apparatus which move the interlocking solid material from the chamber through the exit port apparatus and other apparatus which prevent the binding of the interlocking solid material.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1993Date of Patent: July 18, 1995Assignee: Texaco Inc.Inventors: Vahan Avetisian, Constantin Bugescu, Craig J. Castagnoli, Suk-Bae Cha

Patent number: 5423950Abstract: The reactor forms a chamber which contains the reaction process. There are accesses to the chamber for receiving shredded tires and oil. There are egresses from the chamber for discharging the tire oil and for discharging unreacted elements. Apparatus is located within the chamber which separates the unreacted components of the shredded tires from the tire oil. The apparatus also provides for the removal of the unreacted elements from the chamber means. The reactor also includes a heater which heats the inside of the chamber to a temperature sufficient to cause a reaction between the shredded tires and the oil.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1993Date of Patent: June 13, 1995Assignee: Texaco Inc.Inventors: Vahan Avetisian, Constantin Bugescu, Robert S. Burton, III, Craig J. Castagnoli, Suk-Bae Cha, Kenneth S. Lee, Allen M. Robin
