  • Patent number: 8774184
Abstract: System and method for a full featured network communications protocol that is both memory and processor efficient. A preferred embodiment comprises a method for transmitting information between electronic devices, the method comprising creating a connection between a pair of electronic devices, sending a packet between the pair, acknowledging a receipt of the packet by a receiver of the packet, and dissolving the connection when it is no longer needed. The creating of the connection comprises assigning a port number to the connection at an initiating electronic device and then transmitting a connection request containing the port number to a servicing electronic device. After the transmitting, the creating further comprises receiving a second port number to the connection from the servicing electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20130344469
Abstract: An interactive networked classroom system including a teacher workstation with a base application, and one or more code segments. Each code segment includes a teacher version and a student version. The code segments include API links to a base application at the teacher workstation, or to helper functions such as plug-ins to the base application, such that the student version of the code segment has different rights, typically fewer and less powerful rights, than the teacher version of the same code segment. The teacher workstation forwards the student version of a code segment to student workstations that are in communication with the teacher workstation over a network facility; the student code segments may be embedded in a document corresponding to a classroom activity. Interactive classroom activities are then carried out using the code segments in combination with the base application.

  • Publication number: 20060253534
Abstract: A handheld computing device is utilized to control operations of an analysis system. The analysis system is communicatively coupled to a plurality of handheld computing devices. An authorized user may logon to a handheld computing device and control the operations of the analysis system. Once logged on, the authorized user may perform functions, enter data, or the like on the handheld computing device and transfer the information to the analysis system. In an embodiment, the handheld computing device is a calculator. The personal computer may be coupled to a projector such that a group of students may view the emulator.

  • Publication number: 20050137872
Abstract: A speech to text conversion and annotation system. In an embodiment, the system displays an annotated text corresponding to computer rendered speech and allows a user to adjust voicing and pronunciation parameters of the annotated text; and use a text to speech engine to render the annotated text to a human like generated voice that has modified voicing and pronunciation corresponding to the user selected voicing and pronunciation parameters. In another embodiment, a read-aloud coaching system is introduced that allows a student to “incrementally program” a voice synthesis engine, thoughtfully and purposively creating his or her own reading of a literary text.
