  • Patent number: 9212812
Abstract: An LED light fixture including a housing, a heat sink secured with respect to the housing and an LED illuminator secured with respect to the heat sink. The heat sink includes central and peripheral portions. The central portion has an LED-supporting surface and forward, rearward and lateral sides, the LED illuminator being at the LED-supporting surface. The peripheral portion extends laterally from the lateral sides. The central portion of the heat sink has downwardly-extending shield members at the lateral sides thereof configured and dimensioned to block illumination in a direction opposite the LED illuminator. In embodiments where the optical member is configured for directing emitter light predominantly toward the forward side, the central heat-sink portion has a downwardly-extending shield member at the rearward side thereof configured and dimensioned to block rearward illumination.

  • Publication number: 20150325759
Abstract: Solid state fixtures and packages are disclosed that include an optical element, such as an encapsulant, having an integrated indicator which indicates one or more characteristics of the package to a user, such as package orientation, polarity, chip-type, etc. The host optical element can be substantially symmetrical but for the indicator. Indicators can be additive, such as a bump, or subtractive, such as a hole. The indicator can be visible to the human eye, and/or can be machine detectable, such as by pick-and-place technology. Indicators can be formed by many processes including molding and laser ablation/imprinting, which is particularly suited for use with a hard host material.

  • Publication number: 20150241050
Abstract: An LED lighting fixture comprising a housing portion and a light-emitting portion supporting at least one illuminator, the housing portion and the light-emitting portion defining an open space therebetween permitting air/water-flow therethrough. In some embodiments, at least one wall extends within the open space and open for air/water-flow along at least two sides thereof.

  • Publication number: 20150192267
Abstract: A lens for distribution of light from a light emitter having an emitter axis. The lens includes an outer surface and a total internal reflection (TIR) surface positioned outwardly of and around the emitter such that light received by the TIR surface is totally internally reflected toward the outer surface. The TIR surface has at least one recessed region extending away from the light emitter, thereby to increase amount of TIR and facilitate lateral diffusion of highest-intensity light in the middle of the light distribution. The lens may further include a base surface adjacent the emitter and an inner surface defining an inner cavity about the emitter axis. In such embodiments, the TIR is positioned and configured for total internal reflection of light received from the inner surface.

  • Patent number: 9028087
Abstract: An LED light fixture including a housing and an LED assembly secured with respect to the housing. The LED assembly includes a heat sink and an LED illuminator secured with respect to an LED-supporting region of the heat sink with heat-dissipating surfaces extending therefrom. The heat sink having front, rear and lateral sides and being open to ambient-fluid flow to and from the heat-dissipating surfaces along each of the sides.

  • Publication number: 20140126206
Abstract: A lens for distribution of light from a light emitter having an emitter axis. The lens includes an inner surface defining an inner cavity and including a substantially cross-sectionally convex inner region along an open end of the inner cavity and a substantially cross-sectionally linear inner region joining the substantially cross-sectionally convex inner region and extending therefrom toward the emitter axis. The convex region is configured for refracting emitter light rays toward the emitter axis. The lens further includes an outer surface receiving the light from each of the inner regions. A lens flange surrounds the lens and has an outer flange surface extending radially outwardly from the lens outer surface at positions axially spaced from the light emitter. The convex inner region is configured to refract emitter light to the outer surface such that the outer flange surface is substantially free from receiving any emitter light.
