Abstract: A separating device for separating by gravitational segregation a mixture of a carrier liquid and substances suspended therein comprises a separator arranged in a separator housing and having parallel, sloping plates, a stilling space arranged in front of said separator and having on the top side a first collecting space intended for light-weight substances, a feeding space near the inlet side of the separator, a second collecting space near the top wall and a third collecting space arranged behind the separator.The separator housing is constructed as a pressure vessel and the first and second collecting spaces communicate with one another through a conduit, the flow resistance of which exceeds that of the separator.

Abstract: Method of separating a mixture of a carrier medium and at least one substance insoluble therein, for example, water and oil or gas and soot, in which the mixture is separated in three steps, i.e. a first step in which the mixture is passed for coalescence of the substance through a first packet of moving filter material, a second step in which the substance coalesced segregates from the mixture by gravity and a third step in which the remainder of the substance and the other packet of filter material is filtered out.

Abstract: A device for separating water from light-weight and/or heavy substances contained therein. The separation takes place in a packet of parallel separation channels.In order to prevent that too many light-weight substances enter the upper separation channels, the flow into the upper separation channels is throttled.Also the lower separation channels may be throttled for restricting the heavy substances entering therein.

Abstract: A separating device for separating substances from a liquid to be purified includes a tank having opposing end walls spaced from each other and a separator, comprising two parallel inclined plates spaced from each other, in the tank. The separating device also includes an inlet in one end wall of the tank for the liquid to be purified, a first outlet in the other end wall of the tank for the purified liquid, and an overflow between the first outlet and the separator. The one end wall of the tank and the one of the two parallel plates closest to the one end wall are spaced throughout their extent from each other and define a space therebetween to substantially eliminate turbulence of the liquid to be purified before entering the separator. The separating device also includes a second outlet from said space for substances to be separated that are lighter than the purified liquid. The second outlet is in the upper end of the one end wall of the tank above the inlet.
