  • Patent number: 8060496
Abstract: To generate appendices which uniquely reference an object geographically, a tree of possible paths is generated. The paths are evaluated in accordance with predefined criteria, which are suited for use as termination criteria, at the time the paths are formed. Of the remaining paths, at least that one is coded as an appendix which best fulfills at least one of the criteria.

  • Patent number: 7606657
Abstract: A device and a method of detecting and preprocessing vehicle data, traffic data, and/or driver data, such as the speed, direction of travel, engine condition, weather conditions, heart rate, etc., is described, in which the time and location of recording the data are also recorded in addition to the data mentioned. The position determination may be accomplished in particular by a positioning system such as GPS. The position may be adjusted using a digital map. The recorded data is preferably preprocessed in real time, coded, and/or compressed and/or subjected to a statistical analysis, linked mathematically/logically and recorded and/or transmitted.

  • Patent number: 7593813
Abstract: A navigation system for a motor vehicle includes at least one storage device, at least one navigation map being stored on each storage device, which is read out using a reading device. Associated with the reading device is a changeover device for exchanging storage devices that are to be read out by the reading device. A navigation map and information regarding the instantaneous position of the motor vehicle are displayed to a vehicle occupant via a display device. A control device for the changeover device controls the changeover device so that a point in time for changing over the storage device is identifiable so that during the changeover operation of the storage device, a deviation of the motor vehicle from the route segment currently being traveled is improbable based on the current navigation data of the motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 7047247
Abstract: In methods for encoding and decoding objects with reference to a traffic route network, wherein the encoded information can also be decoded with the aid of databases that differ from a database used in the encoding, the objects are provided with relationships to at least one relational object which is present in databases that are used for the decoding, and the relationships do not primarily result from the traffic route network. A position indication can also be provided with a position type designator, which for instance indicates whether the transmitted position is an exact or navigable position or is the location of a search space.

  • Patent number: 6873908
Abstract: A method and a device are described for managing traffic-relevant events in a vehicle-based navigation system. A traffic information database, which can be updated by the driver in particular through prioritized driver queries initiated by the system concerning the traffic situation is managed in the navigation system. Thus observations made by the driver during his trip can be stored in the database as traffic information and used for updated route planning.

  • Patent number: 6701248
Abstract: A method of route planning in a navigation system, takes place in three steps. In a first step, a quantity of first travel routes is determined on the basis of an optimization criterion, and location-independent and situation-specific user preferences derived therefrom. In the second step, the first travel routes are recalculated in sub-segments on the basis of location-dependent and situation-specific user preferences. In the third step, the determined travel routes are prioritized on the basis of at least one rating criterion. The intermediate results obtained may be displayed for the user after each step, so that the user may select one of the routes if necessary and thus end the method early. The operating behavior of the user and/or the way in which the user follows the route recommendations may be monitored and statistically evaluated, making it possible to customize the rating criteria and user preferences for route planning.

  • Publication number: 20040029594
Abstract: Proposed are a method for using information of a station (1) of an information provider, a communications terminal (5), a master station (15), and the station (1) of the information provider, which allow a location information code to be queried from the station (1) of the information provider in a terminal-independent manner. In this context, the intention is for the information of the information provider to be usable in the form of location information in an application (10), in particular a navigation application, that can be used by the communications terminal (5). A location information code associated with the location information is queried by the station (1) from the master station (15). In the case that the communications terminal (5) queries the location information from the station (1), the location information code is transmitted by the station (1) to the communications terminal (5).

  • Patent number: 6647154
Abstract: In a method for the automated joining of two-dimensional objects, two equally large sets of points of both objects are selected, one point of the second set being assigned precisely to each point the first set, and vice versa. An equation system is solved which can be obtained by setting up a transformation equation Pi′=T(Pi) for the set of points Pi with variable parameters aj and by determining those values of parameters aj for which the sum of all the squared distances between the transformed points Pi′ and the assigned points Gi of the second set assumes a minimum and the first object is plotted on the second one with the aid of the transformation equation thus obtained. The method is suitable in particular for the automatic joining of maps in a motor vehicle navigation system.

  • Patent number: 6640201
Abstract: In order to compare two two-dimensional sets of points (P1, P2, . . . , P5; G1, G2, . . . G5), an equation system is solved that can be obtained by generating a transformation equation for the first set of points with variable parameters and determining the values of the parameters for which the sum over all squared distances between the transformed points Pi′ of the first set and the assigned points Gi of the second set assumes a minimum, the values of the parameters obtained in this way being used as a measure of the similarity of the sets of points (P1, P2, . . . , P5; G1, G2, . . .
