    Abstract: A perforating gun includes a charge tube having shaped charges affixed thereto. Each shaped charge includes a radially outward pointing post adapted to receive a detonator cord. A retention member installed on the post provides a compressive force that energetically couples the detonator cord to the post. The radially outermost portion of the retention member is radially flush with or radially recessed relative to the radially outermost portion of each post. In one embodiment, the retention member has a rounded medial portion, a central opening and a pair of locking tabs that point radially inward to the central opening. Each post may include a slot for receiving the detonator cord and a circumferential groove that is adapted to receive the locking tabs.

    Abstract: A switch includes a casing having a bore, a piston assembly having a first end and an exposed end, a plurality of flanges formed at the first end; an insulating sleeve enclosing the first end, a contact assembly disposed in the casing bore; a pin disposed in the bore; a predetermined quantity of lubricant deposited in the bore; and a spring urging the pin into engagement with the piston assembly. The insulating sleeve and the plurality of flanges are at least partially disposed in the casing bore. The pin has: (i) a first position wherein the pin electrically contacts the piston assembly and is electrically isolated from the contact assembly; and (ii) a second position wherein the pin is electrically isolated from the piston assembly and electrically engages the contact assembly. The predetermined quantity of lubricant may be approximately 0.3 grams.

    Abstract: A jarring tool uses a button member to control the jarring sequence used to free an object lodged in a well bore. A preferred tool includes an anvil having a sleeve portion adapted to enter a bore of a hammer. The button member allows selective entry of the anvil sleeve into the hammer bore. A preferred telemetry link includes two or more at least partially conductive members in a telescopic relationship for exchanging electrical signals with the object. The members extend and retract to accommodate length changes of the jarring tool. An exemplary jarring sequence includes a loading phase, a release phase, and a reset phase. In the loading phase, the button member prevents hammer movement toward the anvil. During the release phase, the button member allows the hammer to be propelled against the anvil. In the reset phase, the hammer and button returns to their initial positions.
