Patent number: 10113762Abstract: An actuator system having an actuator with a rotatable shaft. The shaft may have a first running time to rotate from a first position to a second position in one direction. The shaft may have a second running time to rotate from a first position to a second position in another direction. The first and second running times may be separately adjustable. A motor may be connected through a gear train to the rotatable shaft. A processor may control a rotation of the motor and thus the running times of the shaft. The running times may be adjusted with signals to the processor from a remote controller connected to the processor via a communications bus.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2011Date of Patent: October 30, 2018Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Cory Grabinger, Adrienne Thomle, Torrey William McNallan, Daniel Waseen

Patent number: 10060642Abstract: A damper controller may be configured to send damper control commands to open and close an outdoor air damper to provide free cooling as necessary to satisfy a temperature setpoint inside the building. In some cases, the damper controller may initiate a damper fault test to determine if a damper fault is present. The damper fault test may be based, at least in part, on an outdoor air temperature input, a discharge air temperature input, a commanded damper position, and a damper fault temperature threshold. If a damper fault is determined, the damper controller may send an alert indicative of a detected damper fault. In some cases, the damper fault test results may be weighted to reduce the false positives alerts.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2014Date of Patent: August 28, 2018Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Lubos Sikora, Adrienne Thomle, Cory Grabinger, Miroslav Mikulica, Jan Prostejovsky

Patent number: 10018370Abstract: An economizer controller with sensor calibration. A controller sensor may be used to measure a parameter. At the same time at the same location of the measurement with the controller sensor, a measurement of the same parameter may be made with a precision sensor. The difference between the two measurements may be saved to a controller memory as an offset. The offset may be used to compensate future measurements of the same parameter by the controller sensor. Additional offsets at various magnitudes may be obtained between the precision and the controller sensors for compensating subsequent measurements by the controller sensor. Measurements with the compensated sensor may be used for calibrating sensors in other economizer controllers, for example, at remote locations in the field.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2010Date of Patent: July 10, 2018Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Cory Grabinger, Adrienne Thomle, Miroslav Mikulica

Patent number: 9500382Abstract: Methods and systems for automatically calibrating one or more damper positions of a demand control ventilation system are disclosed. In one illustrative embodiment, a demand control ventilation system includes a damper for controlling a flow of outside air into a building. A controller may be programmed to automatically execute a calibration algorithm from time to time to calibrate one or more calibration damper positions such that a predetermined flow of outside air is drawn through the damper and into the building at each of the one or more calibration damper positions. This calibration can, in some instances, help increase the efficiency and/or utility of the demand control ventilation system.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2010Date of Patent: November 22, 2016Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Cory Grabinger, Paul Wacker, Todd Kreft, Scott McMillan, Adrienne Thomle

Publication number: 20160020910Abstract: A system and approach that may provide power to network switches of controllers in a failsafe manner. For instance, when a controller is receiving normal power, the controller may act as a power over Ethernet (POE) source that supplies power to its connected Ethernet devices as required. However, if power to a controller is lost, then Ethernet devices may switch to a powered device mode and use power from a neighboring device to keep active. Some power may be tapped for network switch operation from any network switch port receiving power from another device. This may allow communication to remain operational across multiple devices in a string of which some have lost a source of normal power.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 15, 2015Publication date: January 21, 2016Inventors: Lou Jones, Cory Grabinger, John Hutchey, Paul Wacker

Publication number: 20150253825Abstract: A power supply approach and mechanism for electrical devices using a polarity-insensitive two-wire bus that can carry data and power. However, some devices, such as CO2 sensors and secure digital memory cards, may need certain amounts of energy for measuring and writing data, respectively, that are more intense than the amount of energy available on the two-wire bus. Sensor, card and other device data may be conveyed by the two-wire bus. The present approach and mechanism may convert power from the two-wire bus into intense energy that can enable the sensors, cards and other devices to satisfactorily operate. A current limiter may be incorporated to protect the two-wire bus from loss of data and energy for slave devices on the bus during a period of charging a storage cell in that an empty huge storage capacitor connected to bus directly could short the bus.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 4, 2014Publication date: September 10, 2015Applicant: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Josef Hladky, Ondrej Ficner, Ivo Chromy, Cory Grabinger
