    Abstract: A movable patient support includes a frame, a patient support surface supported at the frame, a base supporting the frame and having a plurality of bearing assemblies for moving the base along a floor surface. The support also includes a brake, a brake actuator for actuating the brake of at least one bearing assembly, and a brake bar coupled to the brake actuator. The brake bar is movable between a non-braking position and a braking position wherein the actuator causes the brake to move to its braking position. Further, the brake bar extends between the head end and the foot end of the frame and further has a portion extending outwardly from the brake actuator to at least close proximity to the bearing footprint defined by the bearing assemblies but within the frame footprint to thereby provide relatively easy access to the brake bar to an attendant standing adjacent one of the longitudinal sides of the frame.

    Abstract: A wheelchair transfer device is configured for moving an invalid patient from a flat surface to a seated position for transport in the seated position on the transfer device. The transfer device includes a rolling base supported by casters and convertible low profile rollers that are configured to fit under the base of a hospital bed and convert to a larger diameter wheel without altering the height of the transfer device. The transfer device includes a leg portion, a torso portion and a seat portion configured to be coplanar for adaptation to a hospital bed, so that an invalid patient can, with assistance, roll onto the device. The seat portion can then be raised against the patient's buttocks, generally perpendicular to the leg and torso portions, and the whole assembly can then be rotated to a vertical position, with the seat portion supporting the weight of the patient.

    Abstract: A foot support and abduction assembly includes an abductor-mounted foot support configured for pivotal attachment proximate a foot end of a maternity bed. A calf support assembly, for mounting to the foot support, includes a housing for removably attaching the calf support to the foot support. The housing includes a spring-biased pin for releasably securing the housing to the foot support and at least one mounting stud configured for insertion into a keyhole aperture on the foot support. A calf support portion is adjustably mounted to the housing by a ball-type pivot mount. An adjustment mechanism is provided for selectively fixing the position of the calf support portion relative to the housing. The adjustment mechanism includes a slidable sleeve for locking the ball-type pivot, and a threaded rod or a cam shaft arranged to shift the slidable sleeve.
