Abstract: A multimedia multimodal dynamic user interface for mobile/wireless devices. With this mechanism, service providers can offer rich user oriented applications and they have the freedom to explore new applications easily. A voice call path and a data path are setup for each call request to support the user interface and the device information is sent to a server during the call setup procedure. The user interface offers virtual user to user interaction by integrating multi-media with multi modal interactions. A user may enter inputs through multiple modals and inputs are synchronized and delivered to a server for processing.

Abstract: A temperature sensing and transmission apparatus and protocol for mobile phones is introduced in present invention. Phone users can transmit and receive temperature information via the phone network's data channel, in addition to the voice and video data that are commonly seen today. The added dimension of temperature information facilitates the phone conversation and also helps to determine if weather could be a factor in situation where environmental considerations are vital, such as search and rescue mission when mobile phone users call out for help.

Abstract: A telephone call processing system and method for providing operator service. The system maintains a number of customer directories, each customer directory having information pertaining to a number of subscribers of the customer. When an incoming telephone call is received by the system, the system automatically identifies the customer directory corresponding to the customer indicated by the telephone number dialed by the caller. Upon locating the appropriate customer directory, the system automatically switches access by the system operator thereto. Thereafter, the system operator may perform a search in the customer directory for the subscriber who the caller wishes to contact. Upon successfully locating information pertaining to the subscriber in the customer directory, the subscriber information may be communicated to the caller.

Abstract: A system and technique enables network level locks, called network mutexes, on network objects such as databases and ports. A remote data server (RDS) element resides on a server for receiving network mutex (NM) request from remote clients. A NM request includes, in part, a network mutex name, a locking priority, identification of the requesting element and client, and an indication as to whether the network mutex may be shared with other equivalent applications or elements. The RDS element grants the NM request when no other application or element has established the network mutex or the network mutex is held by an equivalent application or element and is in a sharable status. Network mutexes are removed when the remote locking client transmits a NM unlock request. Network mutexes enable central control of the locking and unlocking of network objects.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for maintaining real-time busy status information for a plurality of telephone extensions connected to a Private Branch Exchange (PBX). The invention includes a database for storing busy status information obtained by a server from signaling information generated by the PBX. The signaling information is obtained via a communication link connecting the PBX and the server. The present invention further includes an interface adapter for converting the protocol of the signaling information into a protocol suitable for storing the busy status information in the database by the server.
