    Abstract: A buffer tower for a rifle includes a cut-out on an upper end thereof. The cut-out extends a travel length of the bolt during bolt action. The cut-out extends the travel length by greater than 10 mm. This extended travel length reduces the felt recoil of the rifle and increases the cycle time. An increased cycle time improves feeding reliability from the magazine.
