Patent number: 7566196Abstract: A trailer and a system for picking up and centering spools and a method for stabilizing the trailer when not attached to a towing vehicle. The device to pick up and hold the spools of cable utilizes the mechanical advantages that are gained through the use of a fulcrum and a lever. The use of the fulcrum increases mechanical advantage making it possible to lift and transport heavy spools by a single individual without the use of hydraulics, electric motors, pulley systems and numerous other embodiments. Another feature of this invention is the position and pivoting action of the rack and range of motion of the rack. The angled support rail pivots along with the rack. The pivoting rack has a pocket system with a built-in locking device that secures the spool during transport. The pockets facilitate easy pick-up and form a secure nesting position for the spool.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2004Date of Patent: July 28, 2009Assignee: Great Lakes Manufacturing Inc.Inventor: Craig French

Patent number: 7347597Abstract: A full functioning safety light bar and signal assembly for attachment to a vehicle hitch has a light system that uses a wiring harness assembly having one or more of the following lights: driving, brake/signal, flasher/emergency, reverse, marker, strobe, fog or illuminating lights. Electric sensors in the body of the light bar unit control strobe and illuminating lights. The assembly may match differently sized vehicle bumpers. Extension bars with light fixture assemblies can be attached to the light bar units to add greater illumination upon backing of the vehicle, and collars or strips of friction reducing materials may be attached on the hitch components to reduce vibration or noise. Locked protective covers are used to keep lights or lens in the light bar units from becoming scratched or damaged. Lockable security compartments are provided in the safety light bar to store items such as spare keys.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 2004Date of Patent: March 25, 2008Assignee: Great Lakes Manufacturing Inc.Inventor: Craig French

Publication number: 20050105296Abstract: The present invention relates to a full functioning safety light bar and signal assembly. A light system that utilizes a wiring harness assembly is further equipped with one or more of the following lights: driving, brake/signal, flasher/emergency, reverse, marker, strobe, fog or illuminating lights. Electric sensors in the body of the light bar unit control strobe and illuminating lights. The device compliments a vehicle by matching the various sizes, width and depth of their bumpers. Extension bars with the light fixture assembly can be attached to the light bar units to add greater illumination upon backing up and collars or strips of friction reducing materials are attached on the hitch components, e.g., such as the exterior of the male tongue insert and the interior cavities of the male tongue insert helping to limit vibration or noise. Locked protective covers keep the lights or lens in the light bar units from becoming scratched or damaged.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 17, 2004Publication date: May 19, 2005Inventor: Craig French

Patent number: 6722828Abstract: The present invention embodies a method and structure for constraining logs on a truck or trailer without the use of safety wrapper chains or straps. In this apparatus, the stakes, bunks, bunk pockets, head board and tail board are used to constrain logs on the bed of the truck or trailer. The stakes may be permanently or semi-permanently fixed into a bunk pocket and the stakes constrain the movement of the logs from side to side on the truck or trailer. The head board and tail board are permanently attached to stakes which are correspondingly inserted into pockets welded into the bed of the trailer or truck and are permanently or semi-permanently fixed in the pockets. The head board and tail board constrain the movement of the logs from front to back on the truck or trailer. This systems configuration makes it possible for the logs to be hauled without the addition of safety wrapper chains or straps to secure the load.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2001Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: Great Lakes Manufacturing, Inc.Inventor: Craig French

Patent number: 6209942Abstract: A stake, bunk and bunk pocket are used to constrain logs on the bed of a truck or trailer. The stakes can be inserted or removed from the bunk pocket which is attached to the end of the bunk. All elements are composed of lightweight hardened aluminum. The bunk and the stake are formed using an extrusion process and have internal members or webs that add additional strength and are also formed during the extrusion process. Stakes and bunks come in various lengths to accommodate the various sizes of vehicles, the load capacity of the vehicles, and the density and corresponding weight of the logs. This invention makes stakes easier to work with as their weight is significantly reduced. These stakes, due to their reduced weight, may be repositioned from the ground 16.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1999Date of Patent: April 3, 2001Assignee: Great Lakes Manufacturing, Inc.Inventor: Craig French
