    Abstract: A method for controlling selectivity or turnover frequency of a catalyst is provided. The catalyst is provided between a first electrode and a second electrode spaced apart from the first electrode, wherein the first electrode has an insulating layer on a first side of the first electrode and the second electrode has an insulating layer on a first side of the second electrode wherein where the first side of the first electrode and the first side of the second electrode are between the first electrode and second electrode. A fluid solution that contains a salt electrolyte and a substrate for a catalytic reaction is provided between the electrodes. A voltage is provided between the first electrode and second electrode.
