  • Patent number: 6714533
Abstract: A method and system for routing a call at least partially over a packet switched network is provided. The method comprises receiving the call at a network operations center in communication with a server, and sending a first query from the server to the gatekeeper. The gatekeeper sends the second query over a signaling network to a service control point in response to the first query. A routing message is received at the gatekeeper from the service control point in response to the second query. The routing message is communicated from the gatekeeper to the server, and the call is routed to a call destination in accordance with the communicated routing message. The call is at least partially routed over the packet switched network.

  • Patent number: 6298385
Abstract: An adaptable communication system provides capability to change the format of multimedia files being transmitted over a data network in real-time. Incorporated into a network server is a processor and other functionality for downloading multimedia files and then recreating the files to accommodate different download formats. A file may be created that is appropriate for real-time playing for a 14.4 k modem connection as well as an high-bandwidth line, such as an ADSL line connection. A separate file is created in the network server for these different type of connections. Also incorporated into each of the newly created multimedia files are reference marks which are located at the same playing interval for each of the files. Once a system user has accessed and is viewing a multimedia file as it is being downloaded, an interface connection may detect that noise or other problems on the network are decreasing the quality of the playback.

  • Patent number: 6292566
Abstract: A customer premise equipment device such as a telephone and an associated method for routing a call from an inbound central office are provided. The telephone comprises an audible input mechanism, an audible output mechanism, a keypad, and control logic. The keypad is used by a user to press a sequence of keys to initiate a call. The control logic responds to the pressed sequence of keys by transmitting a signal indicative of call information to the inbound central office. The keypad includes a standard telephone keypad, and further includes at least one additional key for use by the user to designate a routing method for the call.
