Publication number: 20110083647Abstract: An internal combustion engine drivably connected to a variable displacement and variable internal compression ratio supercharger that supplies varying amounts of air to the engine air intake manifold that can range selectively from below through above atmospheric pressures responsive to the power requirements of the engine. The supercharger has a pair of rotors concurrently driven by the engine to move air to the engine. A slide assembly associated with screw rotors is movable with a controller relative to the rotors to bypass air to atmosphere and regulate the amount of air and pressure of the air above atmospheric pressure compressed by the screw rotors to the engine to increase the engine's efficiency. When operating at part-load unboosted, a throttle valve is operable to control the air mass flowing to the air intake manifold below atmospheric pressure to control the power of the engine.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 27, 2010Publication date: April 14, 2011Inventors: Craig N. Hansen, Paul C. Cross

Patent number: 7770479Abstract: A vest for a human body has an air core coupled to a pulsator operable to subject the vest to pulses of air which applies and releases high frequency pressure forces to the body. The pulsator has two diaphragms connected to a brushless electric dc motor with rotary to reciprocating linear motion transmitting mechanisms comprising scotch yokes having anti-lash assemblies operable to generate air pulses in an air pulsing chamber. The diaphragms also increase the pressure in a manifold chamber. A check valve connects the manifold chamber with a pulsing chamber to allow pressurized air to flow from the manifold chamber into the pulsing chamber. An air flow control valve in communication with the manifold chamber is used to adjust the pressure of the air in the manifold and pulsing chambers. A programmable motor controller adjusts the duration of operation and speed of the motor to vary the operational time and frequency of the air pulses.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2007Date of Patent: August 10, 2010Assignee: Electromed, Inc.Inventors: Craig N. Patent number: 7374550Abstract: A vest for a human body has a bladder coupled to a pulsator operable to subject the vest to repeated pulses of air which applies and releases pressure to the body. The vest has a cover having a pocket accommodating the bladder, shoulder straps, and end flaps. The bladder is permanently connected to the cover. Releasable hook and loop fasteners connect the straps to chest portions of the vest and end flaps to each other. A releasable retainer secured to the end flaps prevent the end flaps and releasable fasteners from disengaging when air pressure pulses are applied to the vest. The bladder has an air chamber and a sleeve having an air receiving passage and openings to allow air to flow from the air receiving passage into the air chamber. An oval-shaped coil spring within the sleeve maintains the air receiving passage open.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2005Date of Patent: May 20, 2008Assignee: Electromed, Inc.Inventors: Craig N. Patent number: 6875385Abstract: Molding material consisting of resin coated reinforcing fiber strands in a molten mass of resin is prepared at a molding site for controlled supply to a molding machine. Continuous strands of fiber from supply spools are entrained with pressurized, molten resin flowing through a coating device and coated with the resin. The movement of the fiber and resin through the coating die may be controlled so as to accurately and predictably produce any desired quantity the molding material, i.e. the coating apparatus may be operated in a discontinuous manner to provide any predetermined quantity of molding material to a receiving device. The receiving device may be the feed screw for an injection molding machine or simply a plate movable to and from a compression molding machine. The fiber strands may be cut into predetermined lengths by a cutting device positioned downstream of the aforesaid coating device.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2002Date of Patent: April 5, 2005Assignee: Woodshed Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Ronald C. Hawley, Paul C. Cross, Craig N. Hansen

Patent number: 6604929Abstract: A cutting mechanism for cutting fibers entrained within a viscous flow is herein disclosed. The present invention is typically part of a system for preparing fiber reinforced molding materials that comprises a viscous entrainment compounding device for compounding a continuous strand of reinforcing fiber with a molding material in a predetermined ratio. The entrained fibers are conveyed to the cutting mechanism which cuts the continuous strand of reinforcing fibers into predetermined lengths and conveys the fiber reinforced molding material to an output device. The cutting mechanism itself comprises a housing having a bore with an inlet and an outlet and a bed knife disposed therein. The bed knife has an inlet channel formed therethrough that is aligned with the gullets of a rotating cutter such that the gullets of the rotating cutter are rotated past the inlet channel of the bed knife in substantial alignment therewith.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2001Date of Patent: August 12, 2003Assignee: Woodshed Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Ronald C.
