  • Patent number: 5422180
Abstract: A method and apparatus for deregistering drawn crimped nylon multifilament tow includes the steps of stretching the tow under constant controlled tension at a temperature below the glass transition temperature of the nylon. The apparatus includes means for sensing the tension of the tow between the feed and draw sections of a stretching device and producing a signal representative of the tension sensed and a controller for changing the speed of the draw section actuated by said signal.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 10, 1993
Date of Patent: June 6, 1995
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Craig R. Lukhard, Jerry F. Potter, Maurice C. Todd
  • Patent number: 5325770
Abstract: A process for producing a bale of crimped staple fibers includes the repeated steps of cutting continuous filament crimped nylon tow into segments, maintaining the integrity of the segments while tramping charges of the segments under pressure to form a compacted layer, holding the layer to retain layer compaction and then pressing the layers and strapping the pressed layers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 21, 1992
Date of Patent: July 5, 1994
Assignee: E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Craig R. Lukhard, Elwood A. Roth, Maurice C. Todd
